🔈 4th #GDWeek Side Event: Dr Aleksandr Gevorkyan presents his findings on Armenian Diaspora: "Diaspora and economic development in Armenia: a survey-based analysis". In the world of diasporas, the Armenian diaspora is one of the three classical (along with the Greek and Jewish) stretching back into the millennia. What are some of the distinct features of this community? Does it (and how) connect with today's Republic of Armenia? Based on a unique diaspora survey, this presentation offers an insightful introduction into the fascinating multifaceted complexity of the Armenian diaspora. Challenging the popular view, here diaspora & country engagement proves to be a historically rich non-linear dynamic process characterized by major breakthroughs, overcoming of monumental obstacles, resilience, mutual interdependence, new achievements, and continuity--akin to the rugged terrain of the Armenian Highlands. The 4th Annual Humanitarian Meeting under the theme: "Global Diaspora, Local Impact: Advancing Systematic Approaches in Humanitarian and Development Efforts" was an impactful gathering of diaspora organizations and humanitarian actors that reinforced the indispensable role of diaspora organizations (DOs) in driving localized, sustainable humanitarian efforts.
