A key speaker at ERGP - European Regulators Group for Postal Services, Senior Director Regulatory & Global Affairs Olivier Tsalpatouros shares his considerations for the future of the Courrier, Express & Parcel (more commonly CEP) market.
Today’s Courier, Express & Parcel (CEP) market is a fast-paced, competitive space. I recently had the honour to take the floor at the ERGP - European Regulators Group for Postal Services European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP) 2024 Forum that assesses developments in the postal sector foreseeable over the next 20 years. At this year’s event, we focused on the preliminary results of an insightful study tasked by the European Commission. We know the CEP market has high level of competition with multiple newcomers to the game. Market dynamics bring companies to compete not only on price and performance but also heightened labour and sustainability standards. My analysis brings me to believe that the current EU legislation can support the sector in this rapid market transformation. A prime example is the European Green Deal, which encourages greater transparency and sustainability in our operations. This ensures that our sector remains resilient while continuing to meet both environmental and labour standards - a balance that is crucial for long-term success. As we look ahead to the next decade, I believe it strategic for the Postal Directive to maintain its current focus and streamline processes, consequently boosting the competitiveness of businesses in the EU market. To achieve this level of performance, the ERGP Forum gave us the opportunity to spark discussions among a variety of stakeholders to address the study’s data and implications. By working together to tackle challenges and seize opportunities, we can foster a parcel delivery sector that both meets the needs of users and also catalyses innovation and progress. The continued success of our parcel delivery services in Europe hinges on our collective ability to adapt and collaborate. Geopost
