📅 Lamar County Family Connections Collaborative Workshop Update We're excited to share highlights from a recent Raising Highly Capable Kids session in Lamar County, focused on time management—a skill that can be transformative for both kids and parents. In Session 6: Yours, Mine, and Hours, families came together to discuss how to make the most of each day’s moments and maintain constructive activities. One of the key activities was a 30-second quick-draw challenge where each participant had to sketch their partner. This playful exercise illustrated how time constraints affect what we can accomplish and served as a valuable reminder about the importance of time management for all ages. 🕒 The Takeaway: Effective time management can be life-changing for kids by helping them appreciate the value of each minute and encouraging them to use their time wisely. 📸 Check out the highlights from Session 5 of our Raising Highly Capable Kids Workshop at Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center! In this session, we focused on Limits that Liberate—equipping parents with the tools to encourage responsibility in their kids by setting clear and reasonable rules, expectations, and consequences. 🌀 Our interactive activity, "Game of Throwns," had participants trying to get an object across the room while the rules kept changing. It gave everyone a taste of what it's like to play a game without knowing the boundaries. 🧩 ✨ The takeaway? Just like in the game, kids need to understand what’s expected of them in order to thrive. When the rules are unclear or constantly changing, frustration builds. By setting consistent boundaries, we help our children grow into healthy, responsible adults. 🎯 Let’s work together to empower the next generation—one rule at a time! #RaisingHighlyCapableKids #EmpoweringParents #BuildingResponsibility #HealthyBoundaries #ChoicesCrisisPregnancyCenter @ChoicesCrisisPregnancyCenter

“Crime isn’t random, and neither is reducing it. At Georgia Center for Opportunity, we understand where crime concentrates and why it worsens, but more importantly, we know the solutions. Through our work, focusing on proven strategies to create safer, stronger communities. This Kite & Key video offers valuable insights into the patterns of crime—and at GCO, we’re working to make a real difference.” — Josh Crawford, Director of Criminal Justice Initiatives https://lnkd.in/gMkkfxRK #criminaljustice #poverty #crime #criminaljusticereform #realsolutions

🎁 The Cost of Christmas is Still High in 2024 🎁 Even though inflation has slowed, many families are still grappling with the financial strain it caused. The rising cost of holiday essentials—like gifts, food, and travel—is still making it difficult for many to fully enjoy the season. This blog is still relevant this year, and highlights how inflation continues to disproportionately affect low-income families and what we can do to support those in need this holiday season. 👉 Discover how we’re working to make a difference at Georgia Center for Opportunity. 👨👩👧 Week 4 of the Lamar County Family Collaborative Workshop featured a powerful session called “Limits that Liberate,” focused on helping parents create responsible, confident children by setting clear rules, expectations, and boundaries. The featured activity—Game of Throwns—challenged participants to move an object across the room while the host kept changing the rules mid-play. It was a chaotic but insightful reminder: without clear boundaries, frustration builds. Children feel the same way when rules aren’t clear. They want to understand what’s expected of them—and why. By setting reasonable limits and modeling the right approach to rules, we can help raise children who are healthy, caring, and responsible. #FamilyWorkshops #HealthyFamilies #LimitsThatLiberate #RaisingResponsibleKids
