We are thrilled to announce the inaugural Young Professional of the Year Award winner! The early years of a woman's tech career are crucial, and this award recognizes women in the early stages of their careers who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential, collaboration, and community commitment. Judges were deeply moved by this year's winner and her unconventional journey into the world of technology. They were impressed by her remarkable potential and bright future in both technology and leadership. We are honored to celebrate her as a rising star with an extraordinary future ahead. Congratulations, Megan Birch —Research Scientist at Georgia Tech Research Institute!

In case you missed the news, a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional team of researchers led by Georgia Tech has created a game-changing battery material that could revolutionize the EV market by reducing battery costs. The research was published in Nature Magazine (Sustainability) and is summarized intros article from The Independent: https://bit.ly/40zBsnF In addition to the researchers from GT, the team also included researchers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and University of Houston

  • A new training system that can run on ordinary tablet computers is enhancing existing electronic warfare (EW) instruction for the crews of U.S. air mobility aircraft, including the C-130H, C-130J, and C-17 transports. Known as the Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI) Trainer, the simulation system complements training missions in real aircraft, which can be expensive, and improves access to on-the-ground training. “There are training opportunities after in-classroom instruction that don’t require hands-on system training or training sorties to gain familiarity with the real equipment and its behaviors,” said Tom Glimmerveen, a senior research engineer at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), which developed PVI Trainer. • Dozens of students and professionals attended the recent Resume Review Expo, organized by GTRI's IDENTIFY@GTRI Employee Resource Group (ERG). Volunteers from the ERG gave critiques and advice to the current and future job seekers. One attendee had this to say about the event afterward: “This resume review workshop was SOOOOOO good. Never left a review shop like this that was really informational and gave tangible takeaways. The panel and volunteer reviewers <chef’s kiss>.” Another said: "Thank you again for putting on the event! The panel was very informative and it was great to get to meet everyone. I’m looking forward to making corrections to my resume and updating it on the GTRI careers page."

Just got back from the final project meeting for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored - Generation 2 Reinventing the Toilet. This project was led by Shannon Yee, Georgia Tech professor, and it had over 70 engineers, scientists and industrial designers from around the world. The goal of this project was to develop human waste cleaning technology that neutralizes waste at the source, killing pathogens and turning feces into harmless, odorless ash. Instead of relying on the expensive infrastructure of pipes and gallons of water to move human waste for centralized treatment, the G2RT treats waste on-site within the toilet, transforming the toilet into a bathroom appliance. It doesn’t need a water supply or connection to a sewage system. Clean sanitation like this could prevent sewage contamination that causes diarrhea and dehydration resulting in the deaths of over 1000 children a day. That is Georgia Tech impacting the world. I am proud to have been a part of this project and I wish the 3 companies that have licensed the technology all the best! This is a non-functioning prototype of the toilet built by a G2RT partner, EOOS, from Vienna. Amazing!

Today, it’s mission critical to enhance #security across all levels of the grid. Georgia Tech Research Institute's GridLogic is a #cybersecurity project aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure by detecting dangerous actions and conditions that would potentially compromise system operation. AVEVA is working in collaboration with Santiago Grijalva, a Southern Company Distinguished Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), who is leading the project in collaboration with ECE Professor Vincent Mooney, senior research scientist, Trevor Lewis from the Georgia Tech Research Institute, and researchers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The Georgia Tech team is integrating AVEVA PI System to demonstrate new approaches for real-time grid monitoring on cyber-security applications and AVEVA Process Simulation to simulate the process, gains, and search for improvements. The team aims to develop a scalable framework for deploying GridLogic in real-world scenarios. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dHNkGN
