GI 305 is excited to announce that we have received a $1 million commitment to implement The Young People’s GI (guaranteed income), a cash transfer program providing weekly allowances to students attending a Miami-Dade County area school within our eligible zip codes. The program will begin in the third grade, with weekly allowances increasing throughout students’ educational matriculation, ending in their senior year of high school. The Young People’s GI aims to strengthen the economic justice landscape for young people in Miami-Dade County by equipping students with the tools and knowledge to not only meet their basic needs, but also to achieve agency in their economic choices. We are hopeful that these efforts will lay the foundation for future generations of community members, innovators, and leaders. We are currently soliciting proposals from schools in Miami-Dade County to implement the Young People’s GI program. GI 305 will select a Miami-Dade County area school as an implementation partner of the Young People’s GI program to complete activities furthering the existence of economic justice within Miami communities. To learn more about our proposal process and school qualifications, please access the RFP by visiting: gi305.org/ypgi.

This week at The Foundation… ⭐ We held our Activated Professionals Service & Learning Lunch at Greenberg Traurig, LLP where more than 50 community-minded professionals came to learn how they can play a role in building a greater Miami. We learned about the impact nonprofits across Miami are making, and we connected with Be Strong International , Global Empowerment Mission, and Miami Diaper Bank. 🌱 We loved seeing our fundholders and community partners out in community tending to mangroves and protecting our coastlines! 🪩 The Miami Foundation was honored to be recognized alongside our LGBTQ Equity Fund partner David Jobin, at the Pridelines gala this past weekend. ⏰ Our Saltwater Fellowship officially kicked off with its first retreat! We are looking forward to continuing this impactful journey with our fellows. 🗞️The Press Forward national team met in Miami and spent time reflecting on goals, visions and data - as well as joined our Wednesday all-staff meeting! 🎤 Our Miami Open for Business leader, Brittany, shared her knowledge and expertise at a roundtable conversation about the future of impact investing in South Florida. 🏙️ Our Miami Fellows had the chance to connect for a Happy Hour. We are getting so excited for the Miami Fellows Summit and Leadership Reception coming up on October 17th! 🏆 We selected our next Early Bird prize winner for Give Miami Day! Congratulations to GI 305 on winning $1,000 for your organization. Thank you for signing up early for Give Miami Day!

In April 2024, we began dispersing guaranteed income payments to five local Miami residents. Today, we are releasing our first quarterly impact report, where you can learn more about how guaranteed income is shaping a new kind of economy in our cohort members' lives - one marked by increased power, amplified voice, and reclaimed time. And tomorrow, we are hosting the Miami premiere of "It's Basic" at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. Big thanks and a lot of love to our cohort members who are making this future possible for Miami! 3️⃣0️⃣5️⃣ Read our report at the link in the bio or visit https://lnkd.in/ef_iBdHq. You can also grab a physical copy at our screening tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone who joined our June Workshop: Contributing to Collective Cash. We spent time learning about global examples of community funding, creating our own models, and thinking through what would be needed to see more collective cash in Miami. What was the biggest takeaway? Neighborhoods should be family!

Hey LinkedIn Family! It's been a minute. What has GI 305 been up to? - In April, we started our first guaranteed income cohort and are set to complete our third dispersement this month. See the photos for our first month's impact report! - We've been joined by two brilliant interns - Neal and Joisah - who will be supporting our organizing and data collection work this summer. - Our Co-Founder, Madi, was invited to participate on a panel at Catalyst Miami's "Be the Catalyst Summit," where we were able to share more about our guaranteed income program with the greater Miami community, and brainstorm ways to scale our work up. - We held our first workshop "Time is Money, But What's the Exchange Rate" at the end of May, where we came together with our neighbors and friends to talk about the relationships between time, money, and power. - Our team has been nonstop relationship-building, canvassing, tabling, and growing the network of guaranteed income supporters in Miami-Dade. All of this work would not be possible without your continued support and belief in our mission: guaranteed income one person at a time. To stay updated on our work, visit our website (gi305.org) or instagram (@gi305cf). With gratitude, The GI 305 Team

This summer, I am looking forward to working as an Impact Data Analyst for GI 305, a non-profit organization that has started the first guaranteed income program in South Florida. With issues such as gentrification, housing insecurity, and income inequality plaguing Miami-Dade County, we seek to not only foster social and economic empowerment for residents but also engage them with grassroots organizing and educational initiatives to facilitate community development.

Prolific News 🗞️ posted an Op-Ed written by our co-founders Jandrick & Madi. The Op-Ed presents the case for a Guaranteed Income movement and program in Miami, Florida. Miami is officially the least affordable metro-area to live in across all the United States, and our existing network of social welfare services are simply not cutting it. We present to you why a guaranteed income to local residents is a part of the solution to this housing crisis! We also touch on the misconceptions about the welfare system and who benefits the most from it (the answer may surprise you!). Give it a read and let us know your thoughts!
