Yesterday wasn't just the first day of the fall session at Gillen Brewer; it was also the very first day in Gillen Brewer middle school history! The entire GBS community came out to celebrate this momentous occasion. The ribbon-cutting ceremony started off with a few words from Gillen Brewer Board Chair Kathryn George Tyree and Head of School Rebecca Skinner, followed by a photo opportunity with our very first class of middle schoolers! Amy Salomon, Director of Middle School & Enrollment, did the honors of cutting the ribbon, and with that, our middle school is officially open! Gillen Brewer hosted a team from Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Promise Program today. The team, consisting of neuropsychologists, education coordinators, family navigators, post-doctoral fellows, and externs toured the school and joined Rebecca Skinner, Head of School; Holly Thomas, Assistant Head of School, Amy Salomon, Director of Middle School and Enrollment; and Susan Finkelstein, Admissions Director in conversation about Gillen Brewer's Pre K-8th grade program and the students they serve. #Education #SpecialEducation #Schools #Neuropsychology

This month, the Gillen Brewer OT Department hosted a first-of-its-kind conference in New York with the Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI)! We welcomed 32 professionals from around the world to this four-day workshop to pursue their Certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration (CASI). Members of the Gillen Brewer Occupational Therapy Department attended the course and learned how to administer the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI). The conference participants had the opportunity to tour Gillen Brewer and observed the community working together to foster every student's ability to work towards their individualized goals.     #easi #clasi #ayressensoryintegration #OTMonth #occupationaltherapy #gillenbrewerschool
