Last week, I had the chance to present my ongoing research at the GISRUK conference in Leeds. During my presentation, I demonstrated the Flexurba R package that I co-developed with Ate Poorthuis and Ben Derudder. Flexurba includes a reconstruction of the popular “Degree of Urbanisation” methodology to delineate cities, towns and rural areas in a globally consistent manner. Our package offers enhanced flexibility compared to the original methodology and facilitates constructing alternative city boundaries by customising, for example, the minimum population size required for a city. The full documentation of the R package can be explored here: https://lnkd.in/euNNPWMu. I am excited to share that I have received two awards at the conference. Firstly, my paper was awarded the best Post-Graduate Researcher prize. I am sincerely honoured and want to thank everyone who voted for my paper. Secondly, I had the privilege to receive the new GoFundGeo Award, co-funded by GISRUK and OSGeo UK. This award is granted to a tool or technique that has potential for wide uptake in the open source geospatial community. I am truly grateful for this recognition and the generous support. I would like to specifically thank Nick Bearman and the GISRUK committee for awarding me this prize. Overall, attending the conference was an incredibly valuable and fruitful experience. I look forward to future editions!

🚀 Thrilled to share my experience at #GISRUK2024 in Leeds! This year marked my fourth presentation at GISRUK, and as always, I received invaluable feedback that will greatly enhance my further studies. 📣 This year, I presented our latest work on "Missing Data Imputation for Traffic Accident Records: A Deep Learning Method." We developed a framework that effectively addresses complex scenarios of missing data in the #STATS19 dataset, UK, by transforming the imputation challenge into predicting edge values using Graph Representation Learning 🛠️. The outcomes have been promising and are a testament to the innovative approaches in deep learning for data-driven traffic accident research ✅. Immense gratitude to my supportive and insightful supervisors, James Haworth and Huanfa C., as well as my brilliant colleague from UCL SpaceTimeLab and UCL Dept of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering, Ilya Ilyankou, for their contributions to this research. It was also wonderful to reconnect with fellow GIS enthusiasts and researchers. Cheers 🥂 Looking forward to the Bristol next year~

Excited to share my experience at #GISRUK2024, held in Leeds! 🌟 This April marks the beginning of my journey as a PhD student at UCL SpaceTimeLab, UCL Dept of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering, UCL. It was also my first time to attend at a conference where I presented my research in the 'Labour Market and Cities' section, chaired by Dr. Nick Hood. My presentation, titled "A Geospatial Analysis of Work From Home Policies on UK Job Satisfaction During Covid-19," delved into how remote working policies have reshaped job satisfaction across the UK during the pandemic. I am profoundly grateful for the guidance and support from Prof. Danat Valizade and Prof. Tao Cheng. Their insights and encouragement have been invaluable in navigating my early days in this field. I would also like to express my great thanks to each and every teacher, researcher, and doctoral student I had the pleasure of meeting at the conference. Your diverse perspectives and insightful discussions have greatly enriched my experience. I am looking forward to fostering more collaborations and continuing our exchanges in the future. Here’s to many more opportunities for learning and growing together! Attending GISRUK 2024 was a phenomenal learning opportunity, and I am eager to absorb more knowledge and develop my skills further. A big thank you to everyone who made this experience enriching and memorable! Looking forward to the Bristol next year!🍻 #GISRUK2024 #GISRUK #Spacetimelab #UCL #WFH

Studying for a PhD in AI for Urban Digital Twins | MRes MEng

I had the pleasure of presenting my research at the GISRUK conference last week. It was a great experience attending my first academic conference and sharing my work with the many brilliant minds in this field. My talk was on "Towards Situational Awareness Of Urban Pedestrian Flows: An Assessment Of Data Quality On The Performance Of Predictive Models" where I discussed how LSTMs can be used for time-series forecasting and anomaly detection in real-time pedestrian data. A big thank you to the organisers for putting together such an enriching and well-run event. There were many fascinating talks, and the opportunity to connect with fellow researchers was invaluable. My thanks to everyone who attended my session, asked insightful questions, and provided feedback. I walked away feeling inspired, energised, and excited about the important work being done in our field. Already looking forward to next year's conference!

GISRUK 2024 - Leeds - April 2024 - I'm very proud to play a small role, as a member of the GISRUK National Steering Committee (chaired by Jonny Huck), in the annual GIS Research UK and Ireland conference happening in University of Leeds this week chaired by Roger Beecham and Will James. For the last few years, I've helped make all GISRUK conference proceedings available as open access papers (with DOIs) through Zenodo. This is a very important step in advertising the exciting and emerging work presented at the conference but also in making GI-Science as accessible as possible. It also plays a role in highlighting, in many cases, the first publications by early career researchers. Have a look at the GISRUK 2024 conference proceedings below https://lnkd.in/eXJ-yRdY Maybe your paper can be there for GISRUK 2025! For those of you presenting at or attending GISRUK 2024 - Enjoy it. The GISRUK series is one of the best and most welcoming conferences I've been involved with.
