Today, only 24% of global emissions are covered by pricing mechanisms like carbon taxes or cap-and-trade. In the latest edition of our Climate Risk Podcast, we talk with ICE’s Gordon Bennett about how to close the carbon pricing "gap", and how transparent and reliable pricing can help facilitate the transition to net zero. Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) reposted this
I had the pleasure of attending an insightful workshop organised by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) on the growing significance of weather derivatives in managing climate risks. It was a timely reminder of the dynamic nature of sustainable finance, a field I have been deeply engaged in, particularly in market development and capacity-building. I am also proud to be among the early holders of the Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) certificate. As sustainability reporting evolves and businesses recognise the increasing importance of climate-related financial risks, financial instruments other than bonds and loans such as weather derivatives will gain traction. The session highlighted how unpredictable weather can be leveraged as a strategic advantage for businesses. It is inspiring to see progress in aligning financial resources with sustainable goals and fostering a more climate-resilient future. I look forward to continuing my efforts in this space, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and bridging existing data gaps. A big thank you to Antony Stace, Mike van de Graaf and Shania Fang-I Chien for organising such a valuable event! #SustainableFinance #WeatherDerivatives #ClimateRisk #GARP #Sustainability #ClimateResilience
