The U.S. government has announced a ban on Kaspersky, an antivirus software company, due to U.S. government beliefs of its unacceptable risks to the United States national security and the security and safety of its people based on the company review conducted by the Bureau of Industry and Security of its cybersecurity and antivirus transactions. However, Kaspersky has refuted this and states that this decision to ban is based on its geopolitical climate and theoretical concerns. Now, here's what you need to know for you and/or your business: 1. You will no longer be able to purchase Kaspersky, and if you already have one, the software will no longer work. 2. Kaspersky and any of its partners will not be able to sell or license cybersecurity or antivirus software in the U.S. starting July 20. Resellers who already have the products in stock will be able to sell them, but only until Sept. 29. 3. Some products, such as Kaspersky Threat Intelligence products and services, Kaspersky Security Training products and services, and Kaspersky consulting and advisory services, are exempted from the ban. 4. Existing Kaspersky customers have until Sept. 29 to find an alternative, as the company can no longer provide antivirus signature updates after that date. 5.
