“We’re saving their lives, and someday their discoveries will save ours,” said Allan Goodman, CEO of the Institute of International Education, in an article in The Washington Post by Susan Svrluga. Yesterday, IIE announced $33 million in trustee gifts to expand efforts to rescue scholars and provide educational opportunities for refugees and displaced students. The article features the remarkable stories of two of the thousands of scholars and students directly impacted by IIE’s mission. Esteemed donor families and pioneering corporate philanthropists lead the largest combined commitment in IIE’s history, including Thomas S. Johnson, Mark Angelson, Hartley Rogers, Linda Vester, Martin Tang, and Calvin Butler. Providing these educational opportunities would not be possible without the support of higher education leaders and institutions. “To me, the ability to host scholars under threat and to work with IIE is really core to the entire mission of higher education and the mission of the university,” said Wendy Wolford, Vice Provost for international affairs at Cornell University. Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recommit to creating a culture where everyone feels they belong. Studies show that when people feel valued and included, their mental health, job satisfaction, and productivity soar. This is why we’re focused on making mental health a priority every day. Here’s how we support our Global Gateway Advisors team: • 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀. Our Equity, Belonging and Community Committee convenes stand-ups and lunch and learns surrounding key cultural observances, creating opportunities for conversation and connection.  • 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 through initiatives prioritizing inclusion, diversity, and cultural awareness. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we convened stakeholders for an important conversation on mental health at work.  • 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 by providing resources to help navigate stress, anxiety, and work-life balance challenges. We promote mental health and well-being for our team through our wellness initiatives, encouraging colleagues to take breaks throughout the day, participate in step competitions and more. • 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 to combat stigma and foster open dialogue. We’re convening like-minded voices on how to address youth mental health, globally and in the communities where we live and work. By fostering an environment where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work, we’re not just supporting mental health—we’re building a stronger, more connected team.
