📢 Tech Talk Tuesday: Your Gym Locker May be Hackable 📢 It appears that nothing is safe from hackers! At the #Defcon Security Conference on August 11, 2024, #security researchers Dennis Glese and "Braelynn" revealed that public lockers with digital locks could also be the targets of a cyber attack. Glese and "Braelynn" demonstrated proof-of-concept attacks showing how digital management keys could be extracted from lockers, copied, and then used to open other lockers in the same location. The tests were focused on various models of electronic locks from 2 of the world's biggest manufacturers - Digilock and Schulte-Schlagbaum, whom they notified about the potential breaches after their research. Though public lockers at a gym or amusement park have not been the most secure, the threat of someone breaking into one physically is ever-present. Researchers argue being able to extract a PIN or other information from the #digital memory of a locker could lead to more damage than just your bag or wallet being stolen. The issues of the #DigitalDivide have become more prevalent in a post-Covid-19 world. Worldwide, 81% of urban dwellers use the #internet, 1.6 times as high as the percentage of internet users in rural areas. The digital divide isn't just about being able to access the internet but has come to include the inequalities with access to #Computers, #Smartphones, #Networking, and #DigitalLiteracy.  Covid-19 exposed the differences in digital coverage and access domestically and globally. Four years after the pandemic, the issues of the digital divide are ongoing.  The economic, educational, societal, and medical consequences of the digital divide affect everyone. Additionally, the digital divide also affects digital literacy.
