𝑾𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒆𝒕 𝑯𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑭𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓? 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍 We’ve all heard the stories, maybe you’ve even lived one. You find a job posting that seems like it was written just for you. Your resume is polished, your cover letter is compelling, and you excitedly hit submit. Then… crickets. No response, no rejection, just silence.  It’s frustrating, right?  𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩: Most jobs aren’t filled through online applications; they’re filled through networking. The saying “It’s not what you know, but who you know” holds a lot of truth in the job market.  But what if you don’t know anyone at that company? That’s where networking comes in. And yes, networking can feel uncomfortable, but it’s a skill - 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦.  Here are a few key steps to start building your networking muscle:  𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 – Engage with industry professionals, comment on posts, and send thoughtful connection requests. Don’t just ask for a job—build relationships.  𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 – You probably know more people than you think. Former colleagues, classmates, friends, and even family members can be great connections. Let them know what you're looking for.  𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬 – Find someone in the company or industry you’re targeting and ask for a short conversation to learn about their role and career path. People enjoy talking about their experiences and helping others, this can open doors.  𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 & 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 – Whether virtual or in person, industry events, webinars, and professional groups are great places to meet people in your field.  𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐔𝐩 & 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 – Networking isn’t just about making a connection; it’s about maintaining it. A simple check-in or thank-you message goes a long way.  The reality is that networking isn’t just about finding a job, it’s about building relationships that will support your career long-term. The more you practice, the easier it gets. And you’ll be surprised how many people are willing to help if you just take the first step.  So, if you’re frustrated with job applications going into a black hole, shift your focus. Start networking. Start building relationships. It might just lead you to your next opportunity.  #grnpikespeak #engineering #networking

  • 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉! 𝑶𝒉 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚?  I hear this often when discussing recruitment fees with potential clients. But let’s take a step back—are they really?  Working with an experienced, specialized recruiter can be a bargain when you consider the true costs of hiring. - Work piles up, stretching your team thin.   - Productivity drops, morale takes a hit, and burnout increases.   - Hiring managers waste hours reviewing unqualified resumes.   - A bad hire sets you back months and requires starting over.  Research shows that replacing an employee can cost anywhere from ½ to 2 times their salary. Ouch!  Here are some common objections I hear often from clients hesitant to use an outside recruiter—along with the reality behind them: "𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴." Maybe—but how long will it take and at what cost? How much time will the hiring managers spend reviewing unqualified resumes instead of focusing on their core work? A recruiter with deep industry knowledge speeds up the process and delivers pre-vetted, qualified candidates. "𝘞𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦." The upfront cost may seem high, but what about the hidden costs of an empty seat? Missed deadlines, employee burnout, lost revenue, and even client dissatisfaction can cost far more than a recruiter’s fee. "𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴." But are they the right applicants? Having a stack of resumes doesn’t mean you have vetted, committed candidates that are best fit for the role. Recruiters don’t just find candidates—they find the 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 candidates, ones who align with your technical needs and company culture. "𝘞𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵." Not all recruiters are created equal. If a past experience was disappointing, was the recruiter truly specialized in your industry? Did they take the time to understand your needs? The right recruiter acts as a strategic trusted partner, not just a resume provider. The bottom line? A recruiter isn’t an expense - it’s an investment in finding the right talent, faster, and with less risk. A bad hire doesn’t just cost you money, it costs your team time, energy, and momentum.  Once you find the right recruiter to work with, they can become a trusted advisor to your team. The good news? With the right hiring strategy and the right partner, these mistakes are avoidable.  I’ve been on all sides of the table—as an engineer, hiring manager, and now a recruiter. I help companies build strong technical teams with the right professionals who fit their teams and long-term goals.  How can I help you? Let’s talk.  #grnpikespeak #Engineering #TechnicalRecruiting #Leadership

  • 𝑩𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑳𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘? 𝑾𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒌? Let’s be honest: when you land an interview, it’s tempting to think, “I’ll just talk about myself and all the wonderful things I’ve done throughout my career!” Sounds simple, right? But in reality, walking into an interview unprepared can be overwhelming. The good news? A little preparation goes a long way. Here’s how to approach your next interview. 𝑷𝑹𝑬𝑷𝑨𝑹𝑬: Here’s what you need to focus on: -Tell Me About Yourself: No monologues! Prepare key points that highlight the most relevant aspects of your career. - Reason for Leaving Last Job: Be honest and professional, but keep it short and sweet. No need for a deep dive. - Salary Expectations: Have a researched range in mind, but do not bring this up unless asked. - Company Research: Dig into their mission, values, and latest news. Dropping little nuggets like, “I saw on your website that…” makes a great impression. - Key Accomplishments: Think of a few examples that align with the role. Make them snappy and relevant. - Be Concise: Interviews are short—keep your answers under 2 minutes tops for your biggest wins. 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑽𝑰𝑬𝑾: Showtime! Here’s how to make an impression: Be Ready for Common Questions: - Tell me about yourself. - What do you want in your next role? - Why did you leave your last job? - Why are you interested in this role/company? - What are your salary requirements? - Take Notes: It shows you’re engaged and helps you follow up later. - Show Company Knowledge: Drop lines like, “In my research about the company, I found…” Trust me, they’ll love it. - Express Interest: Don’t forget to say what excites you about the role, like, “What drew me to this position was…” 𝑷𝑶𝑺𝑻 𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑽𝑰𝑬𝑾: The interview isn’t over when you leave the room. Keep the momentum going: - Send a Thank-You Email: Within 24 hours, shoot a thoughtful email thanking them for their time and reiterating your interest. - Follow Up: If you don’t hear back, check in every 5 business days. Polite persistence can work wonders. 𝑰𝑵𝑺𝑰𝑮𝑯𝑻𝑺: Let’s wrap it up: - Research Common Questions: Tailor your responses to fit the job. - Use Specific Examples: Back up your skills with real-life stories. - Leverage the Job Description: Use it as your cheat sheet for preparing targeted answers. - Always Ask Questions: Show curiosity and initiative by asking insightful things like, “What do you expect this role to accomplish in the first 90 days?” - Delay Salary Discussions: If possible, hold off on this topic until they see your full value. Preparing for an interview doesn’t have to be stressful—it’s your chance to shine! Need help? A good recruiter (😉,😉) can be a great resource. By anticipating questions, tailoring your responses, and showing genuine interest, you’ll walk in with confidence and leave having made a great impression. #grnpikespeak
