🌿Exploring Sierra Gorda: A Story of Climate, Conservation, and Reconnection to Nature 🌍 Travel journalist Kathleen Rellihan joined GLP on a visit to Mexico’s Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve where a pioneering carbon model pays local landowners to leave the forest alone, allowing nature to regenerate. This groundbreaking initiative, led by environmentalist Martha "Pati" Ruiz Corzo, shows how grassroots conservation can drive climate solutions. The success of Sierra Gorda highlights the power of community-led efforts, blending climate justice with economic incentives. It’s also a hopeful story of reconnection—reminding us that climate action can start with falling in love with nature again. 🌳 Read Kathleen's powerful story here 👉🏼 https://bit.ly/3Ncd5o9 Xiye Bastida World Land Trust Climate Group Laura P. 🌱 In honor of last week's Climate Week in New York, this newsletter focuses on nature-based #climatesolutions, celebrating the vital role of ecosystems in addressing the climate crisis. This month, we feature an insightful article by journalist Kathleen Rellihan who takes us to Mexico’s Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. There, a pioneering carbon model is helping local landowners protect and regenerate forests. Rellihan’s piece, “Mexico’s Sierra Gorda reminds us our climate stories are missing a reconnection to nature”, highlights how reconnecting with #nature is essential to reshaping our climate stories, reminding us that true solutions begin when we protect and restore the natural world. 🌍 Reconnecting with Nature for Climate Solutions: Lessons from Mexico's Sierra Gorda 🌳 Visiting Mexico’s “green jewel,” the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, travel journalist Kathleen Rellihan was reminded that we need more climate stories about reconnecting to nature. One of Mexico’s foremost environmentalists Martha Isabel "Pati" Ruiz Corzo has created a pioneering carbon model that pays local landowners, who previously were cattle ranchers, to leave their forests alone, allowing them to regenerate. 🌱 This grassroots initiative shows how climate action can drive both conservation and economic benefits for local communities. By compensating landowners to protect their forest the Sierra Gorda is seeing the return of wildlife such as pumas and black bears, while promoting sustainable livelihoods. 🐾 We must remember that climate innovation isn’t only found in tech—sometimes the most impactful solutions come from the heart of nature itself. 🫶 At GLP Films, we are committed to raising awareness about accessible travel options. We recognize the importance of inclusive tourism and believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the most awe-inspiring corners of the world. Travel inspires individuals and encourages them to pursue their passions for preserving our planet. 🤝 Thankfully, the travel industry is increasingly recognizing the demand for accessible travel options and is improving services for disabled travelers. While we are encouraged that this long-overlooked sector is gaining the mainstream recognition and the attention it deserves, we also acknowledge that significant work remains to be done. 🌍 The need to offer more inclusive, sustainable, and accessible travel is more important than ever before.
