About us
Intrepid Travel offers sustainable experience-rich travel via more than 900 trips on all seven continents. As a certified B Corp, we're a business that balances purpose and profit. We are the largest global adventure tour operator with a network of 27 destination management companies (DMCs) and a not-for-profit foundation. Majority owned by its co-founders and staff, Intrepid has been taking small groups to travel the local way, on real-life experiences for more than three decades. Through our global DMC network, our expert teams operate the majority of our trips, as well as tours on behalf of other leading travel brands. Our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised over AUD $15.5m for 160 charities around the world since 2002. We've been carbon neutral since 2010, and in 2020 we became the only tour operator with verified science based targets – these are ambitious 2035 emissions reduction targets, in line with a 1.5°C future. Hello Copenhagen, Denmark - home to our newest team and the 31st office in our global network. ❤️🤍 Our country offices are a key strength of our business, with each local team managing supplier relationships and operations to ensure our travellers have the best possible experience. We look forward to seeing our team go from strength to strength, as we continue to grow the market for our style of travel. #MoreIntrepidPeople
Intrepid Travel’s newest country office in Denmark is officially open! It was great to be in Copenhagen to celebrate this milestone, which is a key step in our 2030 Strategy and our aim to create More Intrepid People. I enjoyed the chance to meet our newest team members and our growing network of partners. It was also an opportunity to share more about our approach to transformative travel experiences and how we plan to make a positive impact for local communities across the region. A big thank you to Zina and Kristijan for their leadership and Inga, who is leading our local team and operations. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Intrepid in Northern Europe.

Intrepid’s Nangma Valley Trek in Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains has been named one of TIME Magazine’s World's Greatest Places of 2025. 🎉 We’re thrilled to see our 4-day trek, which highlights a lesser-visited destination, featured on the exclusive list. Offering a refreshing alternative to more crowded routes, the Nangma Valley stretches 16 miles with a 5,070-foot elevation gain in Gilgit-Baltistan, a region known for its dramatic peaks and glaciers. And working closely with local guides, porters, and cooks, this trek supports the local community directly. 🌏 See TIME's full list: https://lnkd.in/eKZNtHuZ 🌄 Discover more about this trip: https://lnkd.in/gvj5TdsC

This week, Intrepid brand Wildland Trekking was featured on CNN’s OutFront with Erin Burnett, highlighting our role as the first tourism operator to return to Great Smoky Mountains National Park after Hurricane Helene. In the segment, Wildland Trekking co-founder Scott Cundy spoke with reporter Bill Weir about how climate change is impacting national parks, and why recent funding cuts could put these critical ecosystems at further risk. We were proud to help share the community’s story of resilience, responsible tourism, and the importance of protecting America’s wild places.

While companies across the private sector scale back on DEI, at Intrepid, we are doubling down. Because we believe this isn’t just a corporate issue – it's a human one. Today, we’re taking a significant step forward in our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by investing an additional $500,000 annually in our Ethical Marketing Guidelines. The strengthened program aims to further extend representation of Black, LGBTQIA+, plus-size, Indigenous and disabled travellers in our marketing, and commits to investing more in BIPOC owned businesses and creators annually. The policy will help hold us accountable, while creating a framework that we encourage others to adapt and follow. Because diversity isn’t a threat, but the travel industry’s greatest strength. This International Women’s Day, meet some of the women in travel who didn’t just choose a path – they created it. 🙌 Women like Renu, who's breaking down gender barriers in India to put women in the driver's seat. Or Leitah, who's spearheading an all-women anti-poaching unit helping to shape the future of conservation in Africa. Be inspired by the women you might get to share an experience with on your next adventure – an experience that wouldn’t exist without her. 💫 https://lnkd.in/gVenKVsr

Tourism has a massive impact—on local economies, communities, and the planet. But too often, that impact comes at a cost. Waste, overtourism, and environmental damage have long been challenges in the industry. The good news? A growing number of travel companies are rethinking the way we explore the world—prioritizing sustainability, equity, and accountability. And many are choosing #BCorpCertification to prove their impact. I'm thrilled to announce that following an extensive global search, Intrepid Travel's new Chief Marketing Officer is none other than our very own Hazel McGuire. Hazel has done a brilliant job leading our team in the UK and delivering record results. I'm proud to promote her into this global role, leading experiences, alongside the brand, marketing, PR, social and customer portfolios. This news comes as our former Chief Customer Officer Leigh Barnes moves to Seattle, where he will lead our team as President of the Americas. These appointments are truly a testament to the internal talent we have in our global team - congratulations to both Hazel and Leigh. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gX5Mjcmi #MoreIntrepidPeople

Global Summit week is our flagship celebration for our people, recognising what it means to be Intrepid. For just the second time, the event was hosted outside Melbourne, Australia, this time in sunny Colombo, Sri Lanka! The four-day event brought together 200 visiting international staff representing over 50 nationalities, alongside 300 local team members, for a week of learning, fun and looking to the future. Our team enjoyed a number of opportunities to collaborate and connect, including: 🏏 a cricket match - a beloved local game and a chance to get active. 🎤 tour leader presentations, to hear directly from our travel experts on the ground. 💸 the Intrepid Foundation auction, where talented local team members sold off their unique works of art to raise over $4000 AUD for partner ZeroPlastic Movement. 💡 a global hackathon, to collaborate on solutions to Intrepid’s most pressing business challenges. 🏃♂️ the second CEO charity run for the Intrepid Foundation. It all culminated in a full-day Summit, where our CEO James Thornton made a number of announcements aimed at empowering our people, developing the next generation of talent and growing our global footprint.

We're excited to have been highly commended at OutThere magazine's Experientialist Awards for the Most OutThere Initiative in the Community, Conservation and Sustainability category! 🎉 We were recognised for the Intrepid Foundation's partnership with the Black Mambas, the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. Rhino poaching continues at an alarming rate in South Africa, where on average, one rhino is killed every day. The Black Mambas patrol 20,000 hectares of South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park, helping protect rhinos from poaching. We're particularly thrilled to receive OutThere's generous £1,500 donation to support the Black Mambas and their critical conservation work. Thank you! 💚
