In the last couple of weeks, I've realized how much I love speaking with fellow startup founders working on climate solutions. This was the third opportunity in a week to talk about my experience with growing Electra and how we've overcome challenges and are facing others. We're always looking for partners who share our vision of a sustainable future — and that's why we're collaborating with InterConnection, a Seattle-based non-profit that is an e-waste collection hub. Not only do they refurbish computers, but will be a PV collection hub for Electra! A special shoutout to Morgan Costello-Hostettler for working closely with us to enhance check-in procedures for the pilot program. Electra is proud to partner with Equitable Solar Solutions(TM) (ESS), a non-profit that trains volunteers to assess and safely install reused solar panels. ESS is a key program of Coldharbour Institute that supplies low-income families with access to solar energy at little to no cost. 🏡 Together, we’re planning to develop an online training curriculum and optimize logistics to ensure that decommissioned panels are efficiently directed to communities in need. Our collaboration aims to extend the overall life of panels, reduce waste, and provide clean energy access while fostering job skills and economic opportunities in underserved areas. Heather Alvis and Cassie Decker, Electra's Head of Marketing, had a great time visiting METech Recycling Inc. to dive into the solar panel recycling process with Robert Laughlin! METech is a recycling center that is R2v3 certified to handle electronic waste like #solarpanels. "According to a study by the U.S Department of Energy, solar energy has the potential to power 40% of the nation’s electricity by 2035, and employ as much as 1.5 million people—without raising electricity prices. However, as the number of decommissioned solar panels grow, recyclers, businesses, and consumers must step up to ensure that they are properly disposed of."
