We are incredibly grateful to the apple growers from New York, Oregon, and Washington for their generous donation of fresh apples to support families affected by Hurricane Helene. Volunteers from Georgia Power and the Navy ROTC at the Atlanta Community Food Bank are carefully repacking the apples into family-sized portions, getting them ready for distribution. Golden Harvest is excited to welcome a truckload of these apples on Friday, ensuring families still recovering from the storm have access to fresh, nutritious produce during this critical time. This effort wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the growers and the dedication of every volunteer. Thank you for making a meaningful difference! #DisasterRelief #GeorgiaPower #NavyROTC #HurricaneHelene #CommunitySupport #FreshFood #GoldenHarvestFoodBank

Yesterday, Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small visited Golden Harvest to meet with staff and key community partners—United Way of the CSRA, the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta, and the Community Foundation for the CSRA. Together, they discussed the impact of #HurricaneHelene on the 24 counties served by Golden Harvest and explored how continued support will be essential in the months ahead. Deputy Secretary Torres Small listened as we described the immense challenges families are facing—many who were already struggling with food insecurity even before the storm. In the days following the hurricane, all of us knew what it felt like to be food insecure. We talked about the urgent need for increased and flexible USDA support, including better access to food and distribution resources. One partner agency recounted how it relied on Golden Harvest as a hub when its own operations were halted by power and internet outages. The food bank provided the stability needed to keep services running, ensuring that no family was left behind in the crisis. Founder Mike Firmin reflected on the years when Augusta had no food bank at all. His words highlighted how, in moments like these, the presence of Golden Harvest is more than just reassuring—it’s essential. Throughout the discussions, the room grew quiet at times, filled with the weight of shared challenges and the hope that comes from working together. Partners spoke from the heart, sharing stories of hardship, resilience, and the continued effort needed to support neighbors in the aftermath of Helene. Deputy Secretary Torres Small’s visit served as a reminder that the devastation from Hurricane Helene is not just a local crisis but a national one. The road to recovery is long, but with the support of USDA, community partners, and fellow Feeding America, Feeding Georgia, and Feeding the Carolinas food banks, Golden Harvest will continue its mission. Golden Harvest remains committed to providing more than just meals—we are bringing hope and relief to neighbors in need. #DisasterRelief #HurricaneHelene #EveryNeighborMatters #Hurricane #USDA

Our community continues to come together in extraordinary ways. A huge thank you to Ed Mendoza and the amazing team at Cucina 503. Instead of reopening their restaurant, they’re stepping in to help us at The Master's Table, cleaning up the food we lost and running the soup kitchen to ensure no one goes hungry. Together, we are #AugustaStrong. The Master's Table will officially reopen for hot meals tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
