Hurricane Helene has left families across our community facing unimaginable loss—homes destroyed, lives upended, and the future uncertain. One local father, his wife, and their three children were left living in their car after their home was completely destroyed. Many of our neighbors have lost so much—homes, cars, and access to basic necessities. We’re raising funds to offer $200 cash grants to help them buy essential items like food, water, diapers, and clothing. Thanks to GoFundMe.org's initial $50,000 donation, we’ve already started helping 250 people in the CSRA that are in desperate need of assistance. As more funds come in, additional grants will be available to assist even more families in need. Our 2-1-1 Helpline is on the front lines, connecting with survivors every day, like a pregnant mother of six whose home was severely damaged by falling trees. Her family is now crowded into a single bedroom at a relative’s house, desperately in need of food, water, and baby essentials. Stories like hers are everywhere in our community right now. We had two different volunteer teams from John Deere in Augusta working out in the community yesterday for their United Way campaign. One team worked at Golden Harvest Food Bank to help prepare for their upcoming It's Spooky to Be Hungry event. And another John Deere team put on their gardening gloves and lent a hand with some landscaping work for The Salvation Army Kroc Center.
