Remembering the Fallen by Honoring Their Survivors

About us

No one has given more to our country than the families of our fallen: our Gold Star Families. The naming of the peak was a very small token of our appreciation for the unthinkable sacrifices they have endured. Gold Star Peak, Inc. has quickly turned into something much bigger as the connection among Gold Star Families and Veterans, especially in nature, is a connection where many walk away feeling an enormous sense of healing. Mission: To bring Veterans and Survivors together in nature to remember and honor the fallen and bring healing to all. Vision: To improve the wellbeing of military Veterans and the Gold Star Families of service members who have given their lives in a time of war, through education, support and advocacy.

The Rock When the family and friends of fallen Night Stalker SSG Tanner W. Grone reached the summit of Gold Star Peak on 17 August 2024, they were moved to find a painted rock with their son and brother’s name on it. The single rock also had the names of the entire crew from the 10 November 2023 fatal crash. Mr. Grone mentioned at the time that he wished he had brought a rock to Alaska to place there as well; he mentioned his brother in law had the unique ability to etch on rocks. Mr. Grone reached out recently and said he had a rock to send us and if we wouldn’t mind bringing to the summit on our next climb. It arrived Monday, and Tuesday we brought it up the mountain and laid it alongside the other fallen Night Stalkers. It was an amazing climb and summit remembering and honoring Tanner and his fallen crew-members. Say their names: CW3 Stephen R. Dwyer CW2 Shane M. Barnes SSG Tanner W. Grone SGT Andrew P. Southard SGT Cade M. Wolfe #NSDQ #goldstar #nightstalkers #goldstarpeak

ConocoPhillips - Alaska has been an incredible supporter of ours since 2020; we’re grateful for their continued support of our mission, vision, and most importantly those we serve. With Camp Gold Star Peak's Remembrance Park now complete, we’re excited to now offer year-round adventures to the park. Our ability to do so was only made possible from the support from ConocoPhillips. Their generous support this year provided our team with a brand new snowmobile from in Eagle River to assist those we serve with visiting Remembrance Park throughout the long winter. Most importantly for our team, is our ability to now serve those with physical or mobility issues. It's something our team has been working hard on to provide everyone an opportunity to honor and remember their heroes, regardless of disabilities. If the limiting factor to adventure with us has been because of time or disability, we’ve solved it with the direct support from the team at ConocoPhillips - Alaska. #veterans #goldstars #activeduty

It’s been a busy and incredibly productive few days joining 80 community partner organizations from across the nation that all gathered for Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) 2024 Partner Convening in Florida. Highlight for the trip was being invited to share the stage and discuss Veteran engagement strategies moderared by the VP of Connection from WWP, Wilton E. Williamson Jr. alongside fellow panelists Executive Director, MG(R) Mark Graham from Vets4Warriors, and CEO Josh Goldberg from Boulder Crest Foundation. The discussions surrounded around the many challenges faced with engaging isolated and vulnerable Veterans and their families, as well as trust building strategies to help overcome them. Topping it all off was having the opportunity to run morning PT led by CEO Lisa Hallett from wear blue: run to remember, CoS Michael Sullivan from Team RWB, and WWP CEO LTG(R) Walter Piatt. Absolutely no better way to start the day than with a great PT session surrounded by such inspirational leaders. Thank you, Wounded Warrior Project and CSX for organizing and hosting this amazing and productive convening packed full of updated information and strategies aimed at helping our nation’s warriors and their families. #furthertogether

We Shall Never Forget These four simple words continue to be spoken and written regularly. This week, we turned those words into action by showing our continued commitment to never forget. Recently, a Gold Star Mother reached out and asked if I would honor her son on the summit of Gold Star Peak. I couldn’t think of a better way than to adventure his Dog Tag to the summit and place it on the honor tower for all to see, honor, and remember. Before placing it on the tower, I asked the group of climbers we were with to come together, hands all in, to honor her request. This photo is our way of reassuring her that We Shall Never Forget. Please, say his name: SFC Brent A. Adams 1 Dec 2005 Army, OIF #furthertogether #saytheirnames #goldstars #goldstarpeak

RLTW, NSDQ, LLTB We just completed Operation Honor and Remember VI with a successful summit of Gold Star Peak. Each year, CSM(R) Jeff Mellinger sends out invitations to his friends including Gold Stars and Veterans spanning his almost 40 years of active duty service. This year, the participants represented almost every branch of service and came from all over the U.S. All, either served alongside CSM(R) Mellinger, or their careers crossed somewhere along the way, including combat zones. The group included Gold Stars, Doctors, Rangers, SEALS, Medics, Night Stalkers, and Veterans. All of them not only served in, but commanded or supported some of our nations most elite and historic formations; the entire group brought close to 400 years of combined military service to the trail and ultimately onto the summit. The climbers came to honor 12 separate fallen heroes and the families they all left behind, they were General Officers, Senior Leaders, Senior Enlisted Leaders, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and a Marine. #RLTW, #NSDQ, #LLTB #Soldierforlife #goldstars #veteranshelpingveterans #furthertogether
