Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and accelerating recovery times. Good Samaritan Medical Center has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability. Good Samaritan Medical Center also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award for ensuring that patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke. Our appreciation goes to our Stroke Team who, under the leadership of Dr. David Miller, specialist in neurology and chair of GSMC Stroke Committee, work to ensure that more people in our community can experience longer, healthier lives. This hospital-wide award would not be possible without the dedication of our Emergency Department staff, hospitalists, staff nurses and rehab team. Thanks to all of you for your hard work and commitment! click to learn how we earned this award: https://lnkd.in/gG6bTbcF, or visit our newsroom: https://lnkd.in/gtQHYtFi #GetWithTheGuidelines

When focusing on family health, it’s important to understand how to talk to all members of your family about their bodies and minds, including kids. As younger kids may not understand how to vocalize pain or other health issues they're having, it’s important to build a way to communicate with them that works for all. Depending on their age some tips can vary, but overall: - Keep it simple - Explain the science - Help them overcome their fears For more tips visit: https://bit.ly/4c3mtnZ
