About us
At Good Shepherd, our conviction is what drives us. Our compassion is what fuels us. And our spirit is boundless. Good Shepherd provides inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, long-term acute care, long-term care, physician services and community-based services. We specialize in treatment of spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, major multi-trauma, pulmonary disease, respiratory failure, musculoskeletal/orthopedics and complex pediatric conditions. Good Shepherd traces its pioneering spirit for innovation and compassionate care to its founding family, The Rev. John “Papa” Raker and D. Estella “Mama” Raker. In 1908, the Rakers opened the Good Shepherd Home to care for children with disabilities and senior citizens, filling an unmet community need — and setting the stage for Good Shepherd’s continued growth as a rehabilitation groundbreaker. Good Shepherd also partners with Penn Medicine to provide rehabilitation and specialty services in the greater Philadelphia area and New Jersey through Good Shepherd Penn Partners.

➕ NEW Empower+ Display: We’re showing off and demonstrating health wearables through the end of 2024. Health wearables attach to your body and collect personalized data. Some wearables focus on health and activity monitoring, while some advanced wearables can recommend or even deliver treatment based on the data they collect. ⌚ In this new exhibit, we have general information about smart devices such as watches, bracelets and rings. Also, there is info about wearables for disease management like glucose monitors and TENs units. 🍳 We also have a mannequin to demonstrate functional electrical stimulation wearables and how they can help with upper and lower extremity impairments — with the goal of helping a wearable user to perform movements like raising toes for walking or bending the wrist for cooking. 🎶 And, you can learn more about music-based therapy tools that help improve walking after a stroke. Stop by Monday through Friday on the first floor of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital, 3200 Center Valley Parkway, Center Valley, PA 18034. Or, reserve a personalized spot with the Empower+ team: 💻 https://bit.ly/3A9d5Ck 📱 484-307-6280 NOTE: No products are for sale in the space. Rather, visitors to Empower+ can explore these technologies in an up-close, hands-on environment.

Congratulations to Brianna and Caity, recent recipients of Good Shepherd's Scholarly Award. Brianna (pictured, right) and Caity (pictured, middle) researched and presented at the American Rehabilitation Nurses National Conference last summer, focusing on bullying in the workplace. Their work was entitled, “Creating a Healthy Work Environment by Addressing Incivility and Bullying.” Caitlin and Brianna sent a survey to all Good Shepherd interdisciplinary team members asking about the frequency of incivility and bullying and their preparedness to respond in those instances. Based on that feedback, they developed a two-hour education course including lecture and roleplaying to highlight the Good Shepherd’s safety culture. Thank you to Brianna and Caitlin for spearheading this important work. President & CEO Michael Spigel, PT, MHA, recognized Brianna and Caity's work at a recent leadership meeting. #GoodShepherdProud
