It’s hard to find a better example of “Opportunity for All” than Ghislaine’s story. She quickly advanced in our store operations and recently became an American citizen. Her remarks about the abundant opportunities at Goodwill Columbus and in the USA made my whole week! #OpportunityforAll

What an amazing day! 💙 Thank you to all who joined us. #OpportunityForAll #PowerOfWork
Today, at the grand opening of our new Goodwill Columbus Work and Community Services facility, we were joined by Directors Hauck and Miller, along with members of their teams. I am deeply grateful for their support, as well as that of Dot Yeager from the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Our WCS team serves individuals with developmental and behavioral disabilities, and their work truly embodies our vision statement of embracing all individuals as valued and dignified members of our community. #OpportunityForAll Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities

As much as the design standards of the American with Disabilities Act caused headaches for me when I did store design, I have always appreciated it's impact in creating accessibility for all. More so these days as the circle of individuals I know with a disability has expanded over the last seven years. In my prior position within Goodwill Columbus working with, and teaching vocational jobs skills, to adults with I/DD, it was important to know how many different job adaptations are protected by the ADA. Loved helping individuals learn how to advocate and increase their independence in today's workforce.
Today, we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (#ADA). Signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in 1990, the ADA vigorously protects the civil rights of people with disabilities by criminalizing discrimination based on a disability and guaranteeing equal access to public buildings and businesses, employment opportunities, transportation, telecommunications, commercial facilities, and state and local government services, according to the United States Census Bureau. Did you know that in 2022, there were 44.1 million noninstitutionalized Americans with a disability? One of the core populations served by Goodwill of Greater Washington (GGW) includes individuals with differing abilities. GGW participates in the U.S. AbilityOne Commission program, which provides job opportunities to individuals with severe disabilities. #ADA #Goodwill #DCGoodwill #MissionMoment #DisabilityInclusion #ADAAnniversary #Nonprofit #Local #Community #AbilityOne
