At the Virginia Housing Alliance 2024 Housing Credit Conference last week, Alan Goldstein, Vice President of Real Estate Development at AHC, served on a panel about how mixing market-rate and affordable housing can increase housing production through examples like The Westerly, AHC’s mixed-income community with Hoffman & Associates in Washington, D.C. David Brotman, Development Manager at AHC, highlighted AHC’s partnership with Goodwill of Greater Washington while serving on a panel about the power of joint ventures. This partnership will provide critically needed, service-enriched, affordable housing and a new retail store and donation center on the existing store’s site. The Goodwill of Greater Washington, operated by President and CEO, Catherine Meloy, has a donation center at 9960 Main St. in the City of Fairfax, Virginia. Last week, FCED and Mayor Catherine S. Read met with her and Chief of Expansion Jeff Cole to discuss Goodwill Fairfax City’s operations and plans for the future. The team learned how they serve Fairfax City and the Greater Washington area through employment, education, economic mobility, and sustainability initiatives. Every October, Goodwill of Greater Washington recognizes National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to celebrate the contributions of America's workers with differing abilities. Goodwill's nonprofit mission includes providing sustainable employment opportunities for individuals with differing abilities through the U.S. AbilityOne Commission Program, one of the nation's largest providers of jobs for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. Goodwill operates nine government contract sites within this Program, with 76% of labor hours performed by individuals with differing abilities.
