We're just as excited as Folkert Asselbergs and Fintan Burke about the promise of Federated Learning in healthcare, but as Folkert points out “You have to make sure that your script can run so that your data is harmonized—otherwise, it's [comparing] apples and oranges.” That's the big idea. We couldn't have said it better. https://lnkd.in/gri5Q92t

#Cancer is a data-driven illness. And it's not just about gathering data – it's about maximizing the clinical utility of this data, establishing uniform standards, and making it actionable to revolutionize the field of #oncology. 🌐 Leveraging the power of public-private partnership, CancerX is conducting its first demonstration project to do just that: collaborate with the federal government and industry to build comprehensive real-world datasets in a way that’s never been done before in oncology. 🔬 CancerX’s new Data Sprint demonstration project supports an existing collaboration between the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the FDA, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to supercharge the quality, availability, and utility of comprehensive real-world cancer datasets that can augment data initiative efforts across agencies and the field of oncology. 👥 Our community recently sprinted into action to provide support and insights into an ongoing collaboration between the CMMI’s Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM) and the development of ONC’s United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI+) - Oncology extension, executing a 3-step effort: 1. Identify the high-value research questions that may be asked of the standardized RWD/E generated by participants through EOM 2. Supplement the existing EOM data elements with additional data elements that may enhance and further support the inquiry of the high-value research questions 3. Support piloting the implementation of these optimized data elements in coordination with partners to enhance the clinical utility of real-world datasets 💡 Learn more about this exciting work and read our full report: https://lnkd.in/gMFZTjJa #ONC2023
