Like many of his fans, every year our Center looks forward to Josh Sundquist's creative one-legged Halloween costumes. Josh is a Paralympian, comedian, author and self-proclaimed Halloween enthusiast who started this tradition after losing his leg to cancer at the age of 9. This year's costume features him as a bright red inflatable tube man with waving arms and a big smiley face. About us
The Great Lakes ADA Center's mission is to increase awareness and knowledge with the ultimate goal of achieving voluntary compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This is accomplished within targeted audiences through provision of customized training, expert assistance, and dissemination of information developed by various sources, including the federal agencies responsible for enforcement of the ADA. We are not an enforcement or regulatory agency, but a helpful resource supporting the ADA's mission to "make it possible for everyone with a disability to live a life of freedom and equality."

Did you know that different colored candy buckets can signify a child has a disability? Of course, parents and guardians are not required to share their child's disability while out trick-or-treating, but these buckets can be helpful in spreading awareness about a child's needs. This Halloween, we invite you to create an inclusive experience for all kids by doing things like offering non-food treats, allowing a child with communication limitations to get their candy without saying "Trick-or-Treat", and turning off flashing decorations for kids with light-triggered epilepsy. Patrice: The Movie takes a personal look at the harsh reality many people with disability benefits face when they fall in love and want to get married: losing those benefits. The current Supplemental Security Income (SSI) asset limit for a married couple is $3,000 which means that combining incomes can result in the cancellation of these benefits. The film explains that asset rules like these originated at a time when many people with disabilities lived in institutions and had little hope of getting married or seeking gainful employment.
