The Greater Joliet Area YMCA has announced the hiring of Trisha Dust as the Executive Director for the new Shorewood YMCA. Dust will assume her new role on August 5. A seasoned Y professional, Dust has spent the last eight years working in the youth development department at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA in Plainfield. In her new role, Dust will lead programming, community engagement, and operational efforts at the new Shorewood YMCA. Construction of the new 50,000-square-foot YMCA facility, which will be built in partnership with the Village of Shorewood, will begin later this year and is expected to open to the community in 2026. Since opening our downtown Morris location in 2015, we have continued to grow not only our facility and program offerings, but also the number of people we serve each year in Grundy County. To continue to serve our community and offer the types of programs and spaces our neighbors desire, it is time to grow again. On 13.5 acres adjacent to Morris Grade School, the YMCA, in partnership with Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers, envisions a place where the community will come together to grow in spirit, mind, and body. We want to thank Hannah Gilroy from Endeavor Health for stopping by summer day camp at the C.W. Avery Family YMCA today to help campers discuss building healthy habits at camp and at home! Campers also created notecards with their best tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

We're getting our week started with an exciting #KeepingAnEyeOnTheY update! Window installation at the future Morris Hospital YMCA is going smoothly and we are also seeing progress on the walls of the gymnasium and fitness center. And don't forget the lap pool!

Summer day camp starts next week and, as we prepare to welcome hundreds of smiling faces to the Y, we are excited to shine a spotlight on the C.W. Avery Family YMCA’s new Youth and Family Manager, James Wagner. James is a Plainfield native and will help lead summer day camp, summer specialty camp, and summer preschool camp activities at the Y this year.
