Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19th, marks a pivotal moment in American history. Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, nearly two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had legally abolished slavery. The celebration of Juneteenth stands as a powerful symbol of freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. It highlights the struggle for liberation faced by African Americans and serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of those who endured and resisted enslavement. While Juneteenth celebrates a historical milestone, it also serves as a call to action for continued progress in the fight against systemic racism and inequality. The day is used to highlight contemporary issues facing African Americans and to advocate for social justice reforms. By commemorating this day, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and commit to building a more just and equitable future. Understanding and observing Juneteenth is essential for recognizing the enduring legacy of slavery and the ongoing efforts to achieve true freedom and justice for all.

Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May each year, is a solemn occasion dedicated to honoring and remembering the brave men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This federal holiday is more than just a long weekend; it is a time for reflection, gratitude, and remembrance of the sacrifices made by countless soldiers who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. Across the United States, Memorial Day is marked by a variety of traditions and observances: • Parades: Many cities and towns hold Memorial Day parades featuring military personnel, veterans, and local organizations. These parades often end at cemeteries or memorials, where ceremonies are held to honor the fallen. • Cemetery Visits: It is a common tradition for families to visit cemeteries and memorials to pay their respects to the deceased. They often place flowers, flags, and other tokens of remembrance on the graves of loved ones who served in the military. • National Moment of Remembrance: At 3:00 PM local time, Americans are encouraged to pause for a moment of silence to remember and honor those who have died in military service to the country. • The Wearing of Poppies: Inspired by the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields,” the red poppy has become a symbol of remembrance. On Memorial Day, many people wear red poppies to honor the fallen. While Memorial Day weekend is often associated with barbecues, family gatherings, and the unofficial start of summer, it is important to remember the true meaning of the holiday. Here are some ways to celebrate Memorial Day respectfully: • Attend a Memorial Day ceremony: Many communities hold special ceremonies to honor the fallen. Attending one of these events is a meaningful way to show respect and gratitude. • Volunteer: Consider volunteering at a veterans’ organization or helping to place flags on the graves of soldiers. • Educate yourself and others: Take the time to learn about the history of Memorial Day and share this knowledge with others, especially younger generations. • Support military families: Reach out to families who have lost loved ones in service and offer your support and gratitude.

Do you know the 3 most common stigmas of mental health? 🔴Stigma of Weakness - Many people still perceive mental health struggles as a sign of weakness rather than recognizing them as legitimate medical conditions. 🔴Stigma of Shame -There’s often a stigma attached to seeking help for mental health issues, leading many to suffer in silence due to fear of judgment or shame. 🔴Stigma of Dangerousness - There’s a misconception that individuals with mental health conditions are inherently dangerous or unpredictable, which can lead to discrimination and social exclusion. One component of our mental health initiative is what we like to refer to as #TheStigmaMustGO. We are always encouraging you to “Stay On GO” and “strive for greatness only,” but how can you do that when your mental wellness is lacking? Removing these stigmas benefit the community in several ways: 🟢Increased Access to Treatment - By reducing the stigma associated with mental health, more individuals may feel comfortable seeking help, leading to earlier intervention and better outcomes. 🟢Enhanced Support Networks - When people feel safe discussing mental health openly, it fosters a sense of community support and understanding; allowing individuals to seek support from friends, family, and peers. 🟢Improved Overall Well-being - Addressing mental health stigma promotes a culture of acceptance and empathy, which can positively impact everyone’s mental well-being. It encourages healthier coping mechanisms, reduces stress, and fosters a more inclusive environment for all members of society.

During Women's History Month, the Chicago Bears Young Professionals Employee Resource Group hosted a Women in Leadership Panel with Karen Murphy, EVP of stadium development and chief operating officer. Lorena Soria, M.S., events coordinator and co-chair of the Young Professionals Employee Resource Group, moderated the panel where all Bears employees were invited to join the conversation and listen in on the discussion. Karen spoke about navigating the sports world where she was often the only woman in the room and seeking out being uncomfortable in order to continue to grow. The Chicago Bears are continually inspired to grow the game of football, on and off the field, especially with these women at the helm. Happy Women's History Month! 💪 💙
