Annually, we engage in the widespread practice of deforestation, resulting in the loss of around ten million hectares of forest worldwide. Based on the latest statistics collected by the University of Maryland, the tropical regions experienced a 10% increase in the loss of primary rainforest in 2022 compared to 2021. In total, almost 4 million hectares (roughly 16,000 square miles) of rainforest were either cut down or burned. Deforestation and the resulting harm to forests are responsible for around 10% of the phenomenon known as global warming. If we fail to stop or reduce deforestation, it will be impossible for us to effectively combat the climate issue.
