The Open Group's Open Footprint Forum released its Data Model Snapshot that will help manage scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions data with applicability for all companies and industries. This snapshot is published with the intent to gather input from potential users. Greenleaf is excited to join the OFP and looks forward to working with our fellow members to develop the tools and standards we need to build a more sustainable world.
For those dealing with management of emissions data, this snapshot of a forthcoming standard from our Open Footprint(r) Forum will be helpful. The link to the document is in the article below, and we encourage review and input from other standards organization, regulators, software companies, companies dealing with management of their scopes 1/2/3 data, and others from the emissions ecosystem. The snapshot is the culmination of 3+ years of dedicated work from the members of the Open Footprint Forum. If this is of interest to you and your organization, we'd also encourage you to consider getting directly involved as members of the forum. An information form is available at the forum web page: https://lnkd.in/g-MZpp2D. Or reach out to me, happy to discuss the forum.

G&W Electric Co. has been featured in Microgrid Knowledge for the leading edge #microgrid at its Bolingbrook, Illinois manufacturing facility. The G&W microgrid features a 1.3MW flywheel, 2MW vanadium flow battery, and 4.4MW of rooftop bifacial solar panels which work in concert with the existing diesel generator to provide uninterrupted power to the manufacturing facility, preventing costly outages. We are proud to have worked with G&W to bring them together with our partners at Intelligent Generation to provide the economic engine for the battery system. Intelligent Generation directs the CellCube battery to generate revenue through grid services and save on electric bills with strategic discharge during peak grid demand.

Congratulations to David Braun of Intelligent Generation who joins the board of directors at the Illinois Solar Energy and Storage Association, bringing his expertise in energy storage.
Intelligent Generation is proud to announce the election of David Braun, our Vice President of Sales and Marketing, to the board of directors at the Illinois Solar Energy and Storage Association (ISEA)! David's expertise in battery storage was a key factor in his nomination by Brian Haug, past president of ISEA and current board member. As the industry embraces storage solutions, ISEA saw an opportunity to strengthen its leadership with dedicated battery knowledge, and David fit the bill perfectly. This is incredible news for both David and Intelligent Generation. David will lend his strategic insights to shaping ISEA's policies and educational initiatives around battery storage, contributing to a more robust and thriving solar landscape in Illinois. For us, ISEA membership and David's board position translate to enhanced recognition and valuable connections within the state's burgeoning solar industry. We're excited to see this synergy lead to more commercial solar projects incorporating storage solutions – opening doors for even greater growth at Intelligent Generation. On top of that, ISEA plays a crucial role in influencing state-level policies for battery storage. With the Illinois Commerce Commission and legislature exploring incentives, tariffs, and regulations in 2024, David's presence on the board ensures our voice is heard, paving the way for a brighter future for solar and storage in Illinois. Join us in congratulating David Braun on this fantastic achievement! We're confident he'll use his expertise and passion to propel ISEA and the Illinois solar industry forward. Let's make 2024 a year of explosive growth for solar and storage! #IllinoisSolar #BatteryStorage #ISEA #Leadership #IntelligentGeneration #CleanEnergy #FutureofEnergy #EarnSaveProtect P.S. We are proud to work with Earth Knowledge and Dr. Don Wuebbles. Earth Knowledge is helping enterprises and governments understand and address the climate related impacts outlined in the Fifth Assessment on their facilities and operations.
As #cop28 comes to a close, we'd like to share some insights from Dr. Don Wuebbles, Earth Knowledge Director of Climate Science, who shares the Nobel Peace Prize and President Obama's Associate Director for Climate Science: At Earth Knowledge, we are proud that three members of our team are coauthors of the recently released Fifth National Climate Assessment: Dr. Anne Marie Stoner, Dr. Kenneth Kunkel, and Dr. Donald Wuebbles. This assessment of the science of climate change and its potential impacts on the American people is required by the U.S. Congress under the 1990 Global Change Act. The new study further amplifies what has been found by prior national and international assessments, namely that climate change is one of the most important issues humanity has ever faced. As discussed in the report, the more the planet warms, the greater the impacts on humanity and other life on Earth. Without rapid and deep reductions in the driver of these changes, the global greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, the risks of accelerating sea level rise, intensifying extreme weather, and other harmful climate impacts will continue to grow. Each additional increment of warming is expected to lead to more damage and greater economic losses compared to previous increments of warming, while the risk of catastrophic or unforeseen consequences also increases. However, this also means that each increment of warming that the world avoids—through actions that cut emissions and/or remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere —reduces the risks and harmful impacts of climate change. We also know that the degree to which climate change will continue to worsen is largely in human hands. In addition to reducing risks to future generations, rapid emissions cuts are expected to have immediate health and economic benefits. At the national scale, the benefits of deep emissions cuts for current and future generations are expected to far outweigh the costs. #climatechange #nca5 #cop28 #sustainablefinance

The Open Footprint Forum convened business and data technology leaders in #Chicago to advance an open source data model for tracking corporate and product level carbon emissions across the value chain. Standardized data and interoperability is essential to addressing compliance and reaching critical reduction targets. Development to date reflects careful consideration of data security, allocation, flexibility, and alignment to standard frameworks and evolving regulations. Julia Armstrong D'Agnese and Don Wuebbles of Earth Knowledge also highlighted the critical and complementary need for robust climate and nature risk assessment in evaluating the impacts of climate change on business and society. Thank you to Thoughtworks for hosting the event, and forum members Bertrand Rioux, Arjen (AJ) Van De Voort, Arminder Singh, Pravin Chandran, Jim Hietala who led the workshop and shared their work and expertise. Attending were sustainability and IT leaders from McDonalds, Salesforce, Discover Financial, KPMG, Intertek and more. Greenleaf is pleased to assist Open Footprint Forum with this important initiative.

On Saturday, #California enacted the nation’s first mandate for large businesses to disclose greenhouse gas #emissions. SB253 is one of a slate of global regulations aimed at curbing emissions, including the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and forthcoming rules from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The Open Footprint Forum arose from a need to standardize the data protocols at the foundation of various tools and frameworks that have been developed to help companies measure, manage and report their emissions. A standard data model will support existing and future frameworks, and ensure that parties using multiple tools can effectively collaborate and report on scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Sustainability and data representatives from leading corporations across industries will convene Nov. 9 in #Chicago at a workshop led by the Open Footprint Forum to participate in the development of #GHG emissions data standards.
