Breaking: Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) has launched its #IPO in #India. It signals the country’s importance to the automaker — but Hyundai’s #CarbonNeutrality efforts in India remain far behind. "#ElectricVehicles accounted for approximately one out of 500 Hyundai vehicles sold in India in 2023 and one in 1000 during the first half of 2024. While Hyundai has made progress on #electrification in North America and Europe, in India the automaker’s progress has stalled."--Hyeran Hong, climate and energy campaigner, Greenpeace East Asia "Hyundai must work towards fostering mobility solutions that reduce emissions, improve accessibility, contribute to India’s broader climate goals, and also tackle air pollution. By doing so, it can play a pivotal role in transforming India’s #transportation landscape for a cleaner and greener future.”--Sharat M.S., climate campaigner, Greenpeace India Learn more>>https://lnkd.in/dhNjNUjn #DriveChange #zeroemissions #SustainableTransportation #ActOnClimate

'Zero Coal' is the new hottest flavor in steel decarbonization - with calls to cut coal use coming out in Korean media. It's time for the country's biggest steelmaker (and top corporate GHG emitter), POSCO, to ramp-up their ambition when it comes to reaching a zero-coal future. Investing in blast furnace relining and extending the lifespan of polluting coal-based facilities is not aligned with national climate targets, nor the steelmaker's own decarbonization promises. What the #JapanMobilityShow tells us about #electrification: 1. It is encouraging to see that one of the four main themes of this year’s Japan Mobility Show is #CarbonNeutrality. More than two dozen companies held exhibitions under this theme. 2. Unlike other legacy automakers, Toyota Motor Corporation has showcased few technologies related to electrification. #Toyota’s decision to focus on hydrogen and carbon neutral fuel technologies at the mobility show is telling. The IPCC has been clear that BEVs are the most effective way to decarbonise the passenger transport sector. If Toyota pays regard to science, it should recognise that it is not efficient to make green hydrogen out of renewable electricity at this time. Toyota is responsible for at least 1.5% of global emissions. The time left for the auto sector to reverse course is limited and precious. #ElectricVehicle technology has been established. We must take the shortest path to the #decarbonisation of the transportation sector. ---Greenpeace East Asia campaigner Mariko Shiohata

Humpback whales are incredible creatures that embark on an amazing journey from birth, migrating all the way from the tropics to the poles. I've always been curious about what this journey is like for them and how the hidden challenges of the oceans affect their survival. Dive into the journey through their eyes and you will experience more than adventure. Ghost fishing nets, deep-sea mining noises, ship strikes, and plastics… The challenges they face are complex and interconnected, calling global joint effort to build ocean sanctuaries. Orange Gibbons: Creative Meeting Design Insights We had a blast at the Taipei office of Greenpeace East Asia last month thanks to Orange Gibbon for organizing this inspiring event--a Creative Meeting Design session led by Mike Van Der Vijver. Their insights sparked new inspiration for us in organizing public events and meetings. Here are some key takeaways that left a lasting impact: 🎭 The Role of Emotion in Driving Behavioral Change Mike shared how emotions can deeply influence behaviors. A memorable exampleinvolved staff being asked, “What makes you proud in this organization?” A stage was created for them to present an item that showcased their pride, encouraging emotional expression and engagement. 🏃♂️ Active Participation and the 3E’s in Training To keep meetings engaging and productive, incorporating movement is key. Walking discussions or standing in line to evaluate communication skills make sessions interactive and energizing. The 3E’s—Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Energy—are essential to delivering impactful training. 🛠 Strategic Program Setup Mike also emphasized the importance of planning with the end goal in mind: always start with the content, then select a venue and room setup that support participant interaction and success. 🤔 Leveraging Junior Status and Understanding Managers' Pain Points Mike’s advice for junior team members was invaluable—ask thoughtful questions that address what matters most to senior colleagues. By understanding your managers' challenges, you contribute more meaningfully and position yourself as a valuable team player. A huge thank you to Mike Van Der Vijver and Han Chiang for hosting such an inspiring session! I’m looking forward to applying these creative ideas in future projects. If anyone needs inspiration for meeting or conference design, I highly recommend reaching out to Orange Gibbon. Their sharing has truly inspired us at the Taipei office in Greenpeace East Asia to enhance our approach to public events and meetings. 🙌 #CreativeMeetingDesign #CorporateTraining #ProfessionalGrowth #OrangeGibbons #Engagement #MeetingFacilitation

#China's #asset managers significantly lag behind in adopting robust practices to accelerate China's #decarbonization. #Sustainable mutual funds, their primary product, represent less than 4% of China’s mutual fund market and about 7% of the financial market. (Read our op-ed edited by Hongqiao L. here: https://lnkd.in/e87Z8_n6) Greenpeace East Asia's research found that 20% of the $2 billion “carbon neutral” or “low carbon” mutual funds were invested in high-carbon assets. To improve sustainable investment, asset managers should focus on enhancing climate risk management, disclosure, and stakeholder engagement.
