Protecting the grid today, preparing the grid for tomorrow

About us

Gridware exists to enhance and protect the mother of all networks: the electrical grid. The grid touches everyone and makes our modern economy possible. But it’s also fragile. When the grid is compromised, everything grinds to a halt, and the consequences can be dire: wildfires burn, land is destroyed, property is damaged, progress stops, and lives are lost. Our team builds smart sensors that help utility companies to immediately detect, find, and fix outages and take steps to prevent new outages, and other related disasters, from happening at all. The need for power will only increase. We protect the grid of today while we build the grid of tomorrow. Gridware is privately held and backed by the best climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors. We are headquartered in the Bay Area in northern California.

COO @ Gridware | climate tech + social impact + critical infrastructure | 11yr Amazon & Zillow alum

🕑Two years ago, I embarked on a journey to pivot my career to impact work. Of the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals, those related to climate resonated most. My intuition guided me, at times into uncomfortable territory. Despite a persistent lack of clarity about where I'd end up - and painful false summits and dead ends along the path - I trusted the trail. I relied on support from countless peers, friends, family members, mentors, mentees, advisors, and an incredible coach (Madonna Commons), while also taking cues from those already doing the work. As I navigated, curiosity led me to explore climate action from many angles. I learned how little I knew, over and over. Of all the fascinating ways to lend a hand to the crisis, a few in particular kept reappearing and making themselves known: the complexity and necessity of the electric grid, the urgency of climate disasters, and community impact. I didn't know why, and I didn't know where I fit. But I liked how tangible, how palpable, these problems felt. 🕑Two months ago, the trail brought me to Gridware. I'm thrilled that three talented co-founders - Timothy Barat, Hall Chen, and A Bin Omar - entrusted me to join their company as COO. I didn't know the kind of joy I'm experiencing by leading this team and this mission was possible from a job. The humble and mighty team at Gridware is making an impact...protecting the electric grid, preventing wildfires, and safeguarding communities. In my first 7 weeks, I've been inspired by our partnership with PG&E to get 10,000 devices installed and online. 🕑Two days ago, the devastating disaster in Asheville, NC, a place near & dear, has reinforced the tangible and palpable. A flood of catastrophic proportions - as a result of Hurricane Helene - impacted the whole region. While my mom, brother, niece & nephew, and friends are okay, Asheville is not. Hundreds of roadways wiped out, a water system badly damaged, and a grid infrastructure that in parts "needs to be entirely rebuilt." ➡Today, I'm reflecting on my journey and where I've landed. Climate change and the impacts on the grid can bring everything to a halt, stealing livelihoods and lives. As my mother (and Steve Jobs) have said, you can only connect the dots looking backward. To all those who supported me along the way, I can report with certainty - the dots have connected. #careerpivot #sdgs #climateaction #gridware #hurricanehelene #electridgrid #climatevine #terrado #climatedraft #climatedisaster #wildfireprevention #climatetech #utilities #infrastructure

Thrilled to be partnering with Puget Sound Energy! Together, we’ll enhance community safety and grid resilience by reducing the risk of wildfire ignitions and improving outage response times. With Gridware’s Gridscopes, we’ll ensure real-time monitoring and rapid identification of grid vulnerabilities, even in their most remote forested areas. This collaboration helps safeguard communities and strengthen energy reliability, especially as extreme weather events become more frequent. Excited for the journey ahead to build a safer, more resilient grid! #EnergyInnovation #WildfirePrevention #GridResilience

PSE works every day to ensure reliability and safety while delivering power to millions of Washingtonians. A new way we're doing this is through Gridscope, a device with real-time monitoring for the grid: http://ms.spr.ly/6048mnJBy These solar-powered devices remain online even during power outages, which will give PSE a greater level of confidence and awareness during live situations.

Have to imagine a few folks made it to the end of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's post and thought "What are Gridscopes...?". No need to lie awake at night again tonight, it's us at Gridware. If you want to hear about the incredibly clever technology being leveraged for not only #stormresilience & #wildfiremitigation, but fault location & outage restoration, asset management, and above all else, safety, drop me a note. Scott M. Lindsay Timothy Barat

Pacific Gas and Electric Company Corporation CEO Patti Poppe joined fellow energy #innovators in a discussion at Edison Electric Institute #EEI2024 on #wildfire mitigation and prevention. Ignitions caused by electrical equipment in PG&E's service area have been reduced by almost 70% since 2017 by the multiple layers of wildfire protection the company has added. But PG&E isn't stopping there. PG&E recently added downed conductor detection technology, which automatically deenergizes powerlines if they hit the ground. The technology prevented 17 occurrences of downed lines from causing ignitions last year. PG&E has also added 1,700 Gridscope sensor devices to its powerlines, which sense disturbances that have yet to make contact with a powerline. It plans to install 6,500 more in 2024 to further reduce wildfire risk.
