  • We were honored to attend the 127th Annual IHLA Convention, an event that continues to be a cornerstone of connection, advocacy, and inspiration for the hardwood industry. The INDIANA HARDWOOD LUMBERMENS ASSOCIATION has long served as a pillar of support for our industry, and this year’s convention further proved why this work matters: from celebrating craftsmanship and forest stewardship to pushing for innovation and long-term growth. At Gutchess Lumber, we’ve been part of this industry for over 120 years, and events like IHLA remind us why we do what we do. With a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship, we’re proud to stand alongside peers who believe in driving progress from the ground up. If you’re looking for a trusted hardwood partner, Be Sure It’s Gutchess. #IHLA127 #AmericanHardwood #HardwoodIndustry Brian Conklin

In this episode of The Hardwood Advantage, host Brian Conklin of Gutchess Lumber sits down with Dallin L. Brooks Executive Director of the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) to explore critical challenges facing the sector. Hickory is a beautiful hardwood known for its strength, durability, and natural elegance, making it a preferred choice for high-end tables, countertops, and furniture. Our Shagbark Hickory stands out with a hardness rating of 1880, making it one of the hardest domestic hardwoods, highly resistant to wear. Our F&B packs offer a balanced mix of calico and heavy hardwood boards, ensuring a variety of grain patterns and aesthetics. Beyond its structural benefits, Hickory also plays a role in carbon sequestration. It stores 6.58 lbs of carbon per board foot—more than any other species we offer. To learn more about Hickory and sustainable hardwood solutions, head to www.Gutchess.com, or listen to our new podcast, The Hardwood Advantage, on Spotify. https://lnkd.in/ga2XTmZB

  • February at Gutchess: This month, we celebrated the retirement of Dan Clawson, who dedicated 30+ years to our Latrobe (GHI) plant. A true team player, Dan worked across many roles and made a lasting impact. His brother Duane Clawson also recently retired after 30 years with Gutchess. We’re so grateful for their decades of hard work and wish them all the best. Our teams took a break to enjoy Valentine’s Day with Dunkin’ Donuts, a small token of appreciation for our hardworking employees. Finally, our quarterly Moving Up Ceremony recognized team members who advanced in their production roles. Their dedication and skill keep Gutchess strong—congratulations to all who leveled up this quarter! #employeeappreciation

  • Did you know that Ash lumber stores carbon at a sequestration rate of 5.3 lbs. per board foot? A 200-board-foot deck made from thermally modified Ash stores 1,060 lbs. of CO₂—making it a pretty smart choice for sustainability. Beyond the environmental benefits, Brown Ash is highly durable and perfect for thermal modification. With a density of 670 kg/m³ and a hardness of 1320, this makes kiln-dried Ash an excellent option for decking and cladding, offering both performance and beauty. Our 4/4 S&B Ash pack provides a cost-effective alternative to our F&B stock, ensuring over 83% yield while minimizing waste. We offer S&B Ash in thicknesses from 4/4 to 8/4, and lengths from 6’ to 16’. Learn more about our Ash products at https://lnkd.in/ey6CPGDc #lumber #ash
