At our engineered wood products plant in Buckhannon, West Virginia, success isn’t merely a goal — it’s an ongoing journey fueled by teamwork and collaboration that has made Buckhannon one of our most consistent top performers in both safety and manufacturing reliability. And there’s no doubt that safety and manufacturing reliability go hand in hand: a safe operation tends to be reliable, and reliability enhances safety by reducing upsets. At Buckhannon, this interrelationship is driven by robust processes, effective communication, clear goals and process discipline. And it all starts with a focus on people and culture. “From operational reliability to fostering a culture of safety, our success stems from the collective effort of our team,” says Jason Hoffman, maintenance manager. Learn more about our Buckhannon plant, which won three internal Wood Products Awards last year for safety, reliability and breakthrough performance, and innovation. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #safety https://lnkd.in/eqAY9qt7

At #ClimateWeekNYC, leaders from Weyerhaeuser’s Natural Climate Solutions and sustainability teams highlighted the essential role of forests and carbon markets in driving meaningful climate action. Through panel discussions and events, our team engaged stakeholders across our carbon platform and returned energized and eager to continue growing Weyerhaeuser’s positive climate impact.   “When we launched our Natural Climate Solutions business a few years ago, we recognized Weyerhaeuser could take a leading role in increasing awareness of working forests and lands as scalable climate solutions,” says Alicia Robbins, vice president of Portfolio Analytics and Business Development, adding that Climate Week NYC has become increasingly important as a forum for sharing our message and engaging in global conversations around climate.   Read more of our reflections from the week: https://lnkd.in/erJGyfGs #NaturalClimateSolutions #ClimateWeek

September 30 is an important day in Canada when we recognize and observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. This day was formally established as a Canadian federal holiday in 2021 to reflect on the painful and lasting impacts of residential schools on Indigenous people, and to honor survivors, their families and our communities. Throughout the past weekend, a number of our teams and sites across Canada took part in activities to commemorate, learn and raise awareness about this history.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, we proudly joined the celebration of the grand reopening of the Children's Discovery Museum in Kelso, Washington. When doors opened at the museum's new location — only a few miles from our lumber mill in Longview — among the attractions was a new quarterly exhibit sponsored by Weyerhaeuser and designed to teach children about working forests and sustainable wood products. The “Forestry in the Pacific Northwest” exhibit included a logging truck, heavy equipment simulator and company experts, and the rest of the display will be available through the end of 2024. Subscribers can read more about the community preview of the grand reopening. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay  https://lnkd.in/eybvcJMw

HR business partner Rachael Rich will never forget the human resources manager who helped her in a moment of uncertainty at one of her very first jobs. “I felt like she genuinely believed in me,” Rachael says. “I thought, ‘Wow, how cool would it be to help people build their confidence and grow their careers for a living?’” That experience prompted Rachael to earn a bachelor’s degree in human development with a minor in human resource management. “I want to make the same positive impact in someone else’s life that my first HR manager made in mine,” she says. “Today, I get to watch people start as interns and then develop into professionals with careers they love. In human resources, what can be more satisfying than that?” Learn more about Rachael's career with Weyerhaeuser. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #meetourpeople https://lnkd.in/e95bHaxY

It's #NationalForestWeek in Canada. We're proud to sustainably manage millions of acres of temperate and boreal forests in four provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

In Canada, we harvest less than 1% of forests designated for harvesting per year while replanting between 400 and 600 million seedlings annually. This not only helps our forests retain their carbon-capture potential, it also helps provide environmentally friendly alternatives to the products and resources Canadians use every day: https://lnkd.in/gjVFdjHA #NationalForestWeek

Building a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory is an important first step for any organization with net-zero ambitions. Today, with #ClimateWeek conversations ongoing, we’re sharing more about how we do that here at Weyerhaeuser and calling for progress toward a globally accepted forest carbon accounting standard with the release of our GHG Inventory Principles. These principles provide a clear, science-based approach to accounting for the carbon impact of forests and forest products. Read our call to action from vice president of corporate sustainability Ara Erickson: https://lnkd.in/emGcXMny #naturalclimatesolutions #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Quality products and a commitment to customer service have kept our MDF plant in Columbia Falls, Montana, in business for 50 years and counting – making it the longest-running MDF facility in the world. Today, employees and their families are celebrating the plant’s 50th anniversary with a free community barbecue, giveaways and live music.   “Weyerhaeuser has invested in this community and vice versa for generations,” says plant manager Kyle Cram. “Many of our employees grew up here with parents working in the facility and are now raising families of their own. We want to continue that legacy and continue to provide good, stable jobs that support the local economy and make this community a great place to live, work and do business for another 50 years.” Read more about the plant’s history and important role in the Flathead Valley. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay https://lnkd.in/e-b8N65b

As our forests grow, they remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and store it as solid carbon. The 9 million metric tons of carbon our forests remove on an annual basis is equivalent to removing 2.1 million cars from the road for a year or decommissioning 2.3 coal-fired power plants. At Weyerhaeuser, we measure the cumulative impact of our forests on the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide using a stock-change methodology. That means we measure our forests’ net effect on the atmosphere — including growth, harvest and mortality — reflecting the net change in carbon storage on our land, including land use decisions, forest management, growth conditions and natural disturbances.
