Latino-led community developer strengthening families through housing, economic development & education.
About us
Hacienda CDC is a Latino-led Community Development Corporation that strengthens families by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunities. Hacienda CDC was formed in 1992 to provide necessary housing and supportive services in a low-income, predominantly Latino community. At that time, NE Portland’s Cully neighborhood was home to the largest Latino population in Oregon. From there, Hacienda has built housing communities on four vacant lots and renovated one run-down apartment complex – a former hotbed of drug activity and prostitution – in the Cully neighborhood, creating 325 units of community-centered affordable rental housing. Hacienda has also developed communities in North Portland and a farm worker development in Molalla, OR for a grand total of 381 housing units. We provide safe, stable homes for over 1600 individuals each year, and over half of those individuals are children. Hacienda has since expanded its reach, embracing a holistic approach to development and serving Latinos throughout Portland with programs in Community Economic Development, Homeownership Support, Financial Coaching and Youth & Family Support Services. We have grown to become Oregon’s largest Latino-led, Latino-serving housing organization and remain a trusted name in the Latino population. As Portland’s Latino population has grown rapidly, Hacienda continues building capacity to offer our bicultural services to Latinos and other low-income families throughout the Portland metropolitan area.

We are deeply grateful to be recognized as the Affordable Project of the Year. This would not have been possible without the partnership with Salazar Architect Inc. and LMC Construction.
Our third batch of Earth Advantage Award winners for multifamily was also selected by our judges, and includes projects that ticked the box in every category when it comes to balancing performance, efficiency and design. Please join us in congratulating the winners for the following categories: 🏅 Market Rate Project of the Year: Henley Place, a 5-over-1- podium multifamily project in Milwaukie, OR, that serves as a landmark in a redeveloping neighborhood and exemplifies a blend of modern luxury and environmental sustainability through its Earth Advantage Gold certification. Built, designed, and developed by the team of Pahlisch Commercial, Inc. and SERA Architects. 🏅 Affordable Project of the Year: Located in the heart of NE Portland’s Cully neighborhood and boasting an Earth Advantage Platinum certification, Las Adelitas is the outcome of a more-than-five-year community design process that transformed a former strip club site, known for illegal gambling and human trafficking, into a catalyst development of affordable housing and public plaza with deep community benefits. Built, designed, and developed by the team of Hacienda Community Development Corp. (CDC), Salazar Architect Inc., and LMC Construction. 🏅 Catalyst for Change: Centennial Place, an affordable housing community in SE Portland serving families at risk of homelessness and individuals experiencing serious mental health issues. The project applies the principles of trauma-informed design to shape a place that is responsive to resident needs. Earth Advantage Platinum certified, the building is all-electric with a 75kW rooftop photovoltaic array designed to carry a significant percentage of the house load. Built, designed, and developed by the team of Cascadia Health, Housing Development Center, Scott Edwards Architecture and Colas Construction. Kudos to these teams for their outstanding work! This moment was a testament to the strong ties between our regions and an incredible opportunity to showcase the impact of cross-border collaboration. I extend my gratitude to the Mexican Ambassador and Oregon Consul Carlos Quesnel for his support and for entrusting Hacienda and me with this significant role in strengthening our shared economic and cultural bonds. I had the pleasure of attending La Gala with Hacienda CDC – an inspiring event celebrating the resilience, culture, and impact of our Latino communities. 🚀 The keynote this year was José M. Hernández, a Mexican-American former NASA astronaut and engineer. 🚀 His story of resilience, determination, and pride in his roots speaks to the power of dreaming big – and working tirelessly to achieve those dreams. It’s been an honor to partner with Hacienda Community Development Corp. (CDC) to support students and families in achieving stability, education, and opportunity. Hacienda supports our students through paid internships, many of whom are later hired as staff. Paid internships are so important for our students, many of whom are first-generation, low-income, and from historically marginalized communities. Events like these are reminders of the power of collaboration. Together, we’re building a future where students and their families can thrive, strengthened by resources, cultural pride, and collective action. Congratulations to Ernesto Fonseca, PhD, Diana Nunez, Vanesa Mendoza-Cruz, and all the Hacienda staff for another unforgettable gala. Also, the food was on point - nice and spicy. Angel Medina, your mole estaba para chuparse los dedos. I had an opportunity to attend La Gala and celebrate El Día de Muertos with Hacienda Community Development Corp. (CDC) ! 👨🚀I had the honor of meeting Latino Astronaut José M. Hernández who had similar humble beginnings as myself. 🚀 We heard words of wisdom of how perseverance, persistence, and resilience are the ingredients dreams are made of! 🌠 As with many in this room I reflected on my own stories, roots, and how I honor those before me during this holiday and beyond. I have many gems from this evening and appreciate NW Natural supporting this event! Thank you to all those who supported this event and awesome local organization! Cheers to next year! #LaGala #DiaDeLosMuertos #aMillionMilesAway #LatinaInCybersecurity
