  • MY FAVORITE INTERVIEW QUESTION If I had to pick one "go to" question for interviewing candidates it would have to be "What's the worst business decision you've made in recent years and what impact did it have on the company's bottom-line?" I look for three things in the response: transparency (not afraid to admit mistakes), objectivity (recognizes how decision impacted the bottom line) and proportionality (is the example consistent with his/her level of experience and role?).

  • In response to growing awareness of the importance of health and #wellness in the home environment, #homebuilders are implementing innovative strategies to create healthier living spaces for homeowners. Here are some key trends: 💨 Indoor Air Quality: Homebuilders are focusing on improving indoor air quality by incorporating features such as high-efficiency air filtration systems, low-VOC (volatile organic compound) materials, and proper ventilation to reduce indoor pollutants and allergens. According to a study by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air pollution levels can be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels, highlighting the importance of addressing indoor air quality in residential construction. ☀️ Natural Light and Biophilic Design: Incorporating abundant natural light and biophilic design elements such as indoor plants and natural materials to enhance mental well-being, reduce stress, and promote connection with nature. Research published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology has shown that exposure to natural light and nature-inspired design elements can have positive effects on mood and cognitive function. 🏡 Smart Home Technology: Integrating smart home technology to monitor and control indoor environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and air quality, providing homeowners with greater control over their living environment. According to a study by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the use of smart home technology in residential construction is on the rise, with homeowners increasingly seeking ways to enhance comfort and convenience while reducing energy consumption. ⚒️ Healthy Materials and Finishes: Using eco-friendly and non-toxic building materials and finishes to minimize exposure to harmful chemicals and promote a healthier indoor environment for occupants. Research from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has linked exposure to certain chemicals found in building materials to respiratory problems, allergies, and other health issues, highlighting the importance of using healthier alternatives in home construction. 🌿 Outdoor Living Spaces: Creating outdoor living spaces such as porches, decks, and gardens to encourage outdoor activity, relaxation, and connection with nature, promoting physical and mental well-being. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors and engaging in nature-based activities can have numerous health benefits, including stress reduction, improved mood, and enhanced overall well-being. #realestate https://loom.ly/xFfIFDI

  • Most candidates aren't informed when it comes to working with an external, retained #recruiter. So let's talk! Retained recruiters are exclusive to the role they are hiring. They have a higher standard of practicing search and often work on more senior level positions. As an external recruiter, you have a unique vantage point in balancing both client and candidate expectations. As a candidate, do not be afraid to tell us the #compensation you desire to make a move or give us #feedback on how the interview is progressing. We are hands-on and with you every step of the way to make sure the experience is balanced and positive.

I’m a recruiter, and your top talent is my target. "People don’t leave bad jobs; they leave bad bosses.” I’m reminded of this mantra in nearly every conversation these days—whether with a candidate, a coaching client, or a friend over coffee. When business is booming, it’s easy to forget how crucial leadership is. People are busy, targets are being met, and money’s flowing. But here’s the catch: when everyone’s hustling, relationships often get put on the back burner, especially when everyone is already stretched thin. It’s like getting married and waking up to toddlers (IYKYN). I didn’t realize what “stretched thin” meant until I had toddlers. My point: Without intention, relationships suffer. In our industry, where land and talent are scarce, strong leadership is crucial. Leaders who neglect to nurture their teams and show appreciation are losing the retention battle. Trust me, I know, because I’m out there recruiting your team. Despite that, there’s one message I occasionally receive from someone I’ve reached out to that always makes me smile: “Thanks for thinking of me, but I’m really happy where I am.” That is #goals. Talent is your most valuable asset, and no matter how much business you’re doing, if your team doesn’t feel supported, recognized, or valued, they will walk. And guess what? The talent pool isn’t as endless as some think. Leaders, this is your wake-up call: Don’t let short-term success blind you to long-term consequences. Here are three things you can do this week to start reconnecting with your team: 1. 1:1 Meetings: Are you holding your 1:1’s sacred on your calendar? I always ask candidates who aren’t satisfied: “Have you discussed this with your manager?” Often, the response is, “I haven't had a 1:1 in weeks/months.” ➡️ Prioritize your 1:1 meetings and remember they’re for THEM, not you. 2. Acknowledge and Appreciate: Take time this week to recognize the hard work and contributions of your team members. A simple thank-you note, a shoutout in a meeting, or a small gesture can make a big impact. ➡️ To build trust quickly, say: “I’ve been thinking about you and apologize for not acknowledging your work on XYZ earlier. I appreciate having you on the team.” Your team needs to see it's okay to make mistakes—show them. 3. Open the Door for Honest Feedback: Create a safe space for your team to share their thoughts and concerns. Let them know their voices are heard and valued. ➡️ Send your team to lunch (on the company) and ask them to list three ways to improve their work environment. Show you’re committed to their feedback by collaborating on and implementing those changes. Focus on reconnecting with your team, realigning your leadership, and fostering engagement. Leadership is not just about targets but nurturing the people who achieve them. • 🔊 Candidates: Check out our latest micro article for #ProTips! Highlights include: ⏱️ Ask someone to review your resume for just 10 seconds to see what stands out. 📱 Review your LinkedIn profile on your smartphone. If it takes endless thumb scrolls to learn who, what, where, and when, reconsider what's essential. 📝 Be concise and avoid inserting an objective on your resume. Summaries should focus on your experience, not self-reported accolades. Use white space to enhance readability. 🔍 Track your outreach efforts in a spreadsheet to stay organized and motivated. #JobSearch #ResumeTips

  • Our own, Rodney Hall, recently shared "The Scouting Report: Science vs. Bias" to a packed room at #PCBC. The key takeaway: Most companies have an incomplete picture of a candidate's potential. To change that, start with an ORG chart to paint the full picture and understand the context: Who, What, Where, When, WHY, How. By doing so, you can uncover hidden strengths and potential that might be overlooked otherwise.
