Exciting news! Under the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications and Battle Management (PEO C3BM), the United States Department of the Air Force recently rolled out foundational aspects to support its Battle Network, including 16 Tactical Operations Center-Light (TOC-L) edge nodes, a cloud-based command and control platform, and a digital infrastructure component. “In the last year, we’ve deployed 16 TOC-L kits out into the field, and right now, the teams are operationally [testing the limits] of them,” Maj. Gen Luke Cropsey, the Department of the Air Force integrating PEO for C3BM and assistant secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force, explained. “They are doing that intentionally so that we can understand better from an operational-use context, what works and what doesn’t work. Then we are going to fold that immediately into the next iteration of those kits. And moving into 2025, we’re going to get busy pushing them out at scale.” Learn more. #DAF #AirForce #USAF #C3BM #Innovation #Defense #News

The United States Department of the Air Force awarded a Services Category 1 indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract for Air Force EITaaS Base Infrastructure Modernization (#BIM). "This award is a major milestone in delivering continuous network modernization to the Department of the Air Force network rather than periodic refreshes," said Col. Fred Garcia, upper-senior materiel leader, Enterprise IT & Cyber Infrastructure Division, Cyber & Networks Directorate. The #BIM IDIQ was awarded to 23 companies with a $12.5 billion ceiling. "This is a smart investment of services enabling the use of commercial connectivity," said Wayne Anderson, Base Area Networks program manager. "BIM integrates holistic industry best practices into DAF Enterprise IT Acquisitions, driving alignment of IT spend to facilities planning on square footage basis, and right sizing the DAF network services by standardizing the delivery approach for the enterprise." Congratulations to Maria Bandouveres who is celebrating 80 years of civil service! In 1944, Maria Bandouveres began her federal career as a clerk-typist during World War II. More than 80 years later, she continues to serve our nation at Hanscom Air Force Base (Mass.) "Her most important role has been a guardian of our ideals through time," said Maj Gen Anthony Genatempo, reflecting on Maria's remarkable career. Today, officials honored Maria's unparalleled dedication with a ceremony recognizing her 80 years of federal service.
💞👏We could not close out the United States Department of Defense Value of Service Day without a big congrats to Hanscom Air Force Base (Mass.)'s Maria Bandouveres who is celebrating 80 YEARS of civil service! In 1944, during World War II, Bandouveres, a 17-year-old Cambridge, Massachusetts native, began her federal career as a clerk-typist to support the war effort. Her journey began just after her high school graduation on June 6, 1944 – D-Day. Encouraged by high school teachers to take the Civil Service Exam, Bandouveres soon began working at the South Boston Army Station, filing purchase orders as a Clerical-Administrative-Fiscal-1, or CAF-1, today's equivalent of the general schedule pay scale. She later worked at the Navy Supply Corps School at Harvard University, where she manually typed travel checks for Sailors and then was hired by the Army Air Corps, working at the Cambridge Field Station on Albany Street, typing job descriptions in the Position Classification Office. By the early 1950s, Bandouveres started to work at Laurence G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., now Hanscom Air Force Base, where she's been ever since. Why does she serve? In her words at the 80-year milestone event, "I have met some of the best people during my time here. They have been the best people I have ever worked with in every position I have had. I don’t know how to thank you for being here with me.” #PeopleofAFMC #WhyIServe #valueofservice

Thanks to NSIN - National Security Innovation Network’s Bootcamp program, Hanscom Air Force Base (Mass.) personnel are learning human-centered design principles and how to apply them to solve real-world challenges for the United States Air Force. During an Aug. 12-15 session of the program, participants focused on identifying how Team Hanscom might use technology forecasting to create more informed decisions. Fifteen participants worked in four teams to identify and pitch solutions related to adopting automation to increase capacity; developing a virtual assistant that acts as a force multiplier; leveraging homomorphic encryption to do secure calculations; and implementing a “checkmate” acquisition method to ensure emerging technologies and active threats are proactively considered throughout the program life cycle. Deputy Associate Director for Engineering and Technical Management, Lt. Col. Michael Johnson stated “all four teams had great ideas” and he plans to work with the teams on next steps to move the ideas forward. https://lnkd.in/dCFY26Sd Air Force Materiel Command Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Kelly Schulte Nic Meliones
