Last week, Nicole Stallings joined a panel of health care and government leaders at City & State PA's Aging Summit to discuss how Pennsylvania can prepare now to meet the needs of its aging population. Stallings emphasized the critical need to bolster the health care workforce and ensure the sustainability of providers across the continuum. "Access to care right now in Pennsylvania is strained," Stallings said. "More than 50 percent of our hospitals have operating margins that are in the red." See PCN's broadcast of the full summit (https://lnkd.in/e5DNUV3H) and read last week's HAP Daily story (https://lnkd.in/eECHkGRf) online.

“From an emergency management standpoint, we certainly take the standpoint of worst case scenario for this extending for an extended period of time, and then hope really for the best.” Read insights from Christopher Chamberlain, MS RN CHEP and Jon Stallkamp in today's WHYY story on how hospitals are navigating the IV fluid shortage - https://lnkd.in/ek8RryXB

Be sure to check out last night's news story for insights from Christopher Chamberlain, MS RN CHEP on how hospitals are navigating supply disruptions for IV fluids.
The supply chain impacts are real for hospitals across Pennsylvania and the US, and with an additional storm on the horizon, action needs to be taken as soon as possible. "It's certainly something that's affecting hospitals across Pennsylvania and, quite frankly, across the United States," Christopher Chamberlain, the vice president of emergency management of the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, said. Chamberlain said if the shortage gets worse, some hospitals may have to delay procedures that aren't urgent. "Looking at elective procedures, elective surgeries, and maybe postponing them for now," he said. "Now, the challenge is those are short-term strategies." #HAP #healthcare #supplychain #emergencymanagement
