I have been working in the Shop since 1997 and have been a Shop manager a little over 26 years. ⭐Are there any specific projects you’ve worked on at Harper that you’re particularly proud of? It used to be a long and painful process to load and unload Forming Tools between the cart stations to the Press. I worked with multiple people from the Shop and Engineering team to combine different ideas and now one person can move in and out a lot easier. Really proud of the teamwork and the results. ⭐What motivates you at work? I want to see the company continue to grow and be more successful after I leave. Harper Engineering Co. was founded in 1968 when Boeing employee O.J. Harper had a vision to address technical challenges in aircraft interiors. Since then, Harper Engineering has evolved into a leading producer of mechanically engineered devices for aircraft interiors. With a range of aircraft-certified products such as stowage bin latches, ceiling latches, door locks, oxygen bottle brackets, and seat track fittings, it has also expanded into manufacturing certified products from reinforced thermoplastics. The company employs 85 people in Renton and is 100% employee owned. Through the company’s commitment to on-time delivery and exceeding quality, it was named the 2023 Boeing Supplier of the Year for Supply Support and Services. For the last 12 months it has maintained 99.89% quality and 99.53% on-time delivery metrics. Harper Engineering was my first opportunity to kickstart my career as a machinist right after Technical college. What is one of the most important things that you have learned from a mentor in your professional life? “Trust people until they give you a reason not too” What do you like to do when you are not working? I enjoy working with my hands, whether it’s taking on repair or upgrade projects at home or performing maintenance on my cars. To relax, I like watching movies. What is your favorite place you’ve traveled to? ✈️ My wife and I love to go on cruises whenever we can.
