The State of Utah has rigorous licensing requirement for residential treatment centers like Havenwood Academy To ensure that we’re meeting our state guidelines at all times we’re performing our own self-inspections proactively. Today is our “mock licensing” visit at Aspen house. Our director of licensing Janie Sabin is conducting the full licensing walkthrough using the official checklist with two of our team leads as if this is our official site visit. This is a great procedure that keeps an understanding of licensing requirements distributed throughout the organization.

Sports (track & cross country specifically) have been a guiding force for good in my life. They've brought everything from physical health, to lasting friendships, to educational opportunities. My personal experience with sports is one of the reasons I'm so excited that we've established Varsity and a JV volleyball teams at Havenwood Academy Our mission at Havenwood is to provide world class trauma treatment to children who wouldn't otherwise receive care - so for us, this is much more than providing engaging activities for our students. Sports are an effective trauma intervention. They deliver the healing power of Bruce Duncan Perry's 6R's. Rhythmic Repetitive Relational Rewarding Relevant Respectful Sports combine physical activity, relationships, confidence building, and routine into our lives. This volleyball court will be the setting for hundreds of teens to find renewed hope in their future.

Guess why we're wearing pink... Not because it's our favorite color (although we like it) It's because today is admission day at Havenwood Academy !!! So, we're celebrating by wearing our newest guest's favorite color. We know their favorite: -Color -Musician -Hobbies -Book & genre -Movie -Food -Optimal bed time We know that client experience impacts treatment outcomes, so we're doubling down on experience. First impressions matter.

Sorry, I have to brag... Our nurses are setting records with our Medical Dept NPS score at Havenwood Academy Each month our medical team asks each one of our guests the following question: "How well do you feel your medical needs are understood and addressed?". The guests can answer on a 1-10 scale and this is run through the Net Promoter Score formula. Nines and tens are considered promotors. Sevens and eights are thrown out as passives. Everything six and below is considered a detractor. You then subtract the percentage of detractors from the percentage of promotors. Not an easy assessment. Our most recent survey came in with an NPS of 81!!! This is in the world class range and is rarely achieved anywhere. Our medical team is literally proactively setting 1:1s up with each student to monitor their medical needs and make sure they feel attended to.

Here are five ways ways we're making teen behavioral healthcare a better experience at Havenwood Academy *And we're doing this in one of the highest acuity long term residential programs in the country* 1. We're doing video calls interviews with over 50% of potential guests prior to admission. This builds trust with the guest, and helps us make better admission decisions. You might not think this is possible - but a surprising number of teens are game for this. 2. Fewer than 15% of our guests are arriving at our program via third party transport. It improves the process if the parent or guardian is present at admission. My personal experience is that the biggest predictor of who uses transport is financial means, not safety concerns. 3. When the guest does arrive via transport, their parents are present for admission on the Owl Labs webcam. This gives them a 360 degree view of the room and a more interactive admission experience. 4. Where appropriate, our guests are assigned Gabb smart watches. This gives them communication access to their families that is unusual in this field. They're able to continue communication with their families without the risks of social media and with defined time frame and contact list boundaries. 5. We have 130 employees to support 40 guests. This permits us the flexibility to run high staff ratios and assign 1:1 staff where needed. These staff members are trained on our guest's trauma history to cultivate empathy and understand how to best support. They still don't want to be at Havenwood. That might never change. But we're doing our best to make them feel comfortable and cared for nevertheless.
