World Tourism Day 2024: Fostering Peace Through Connection 🤝 Today in Hawaiʻi, we are reminded that aloha and kuleana invite us to share our moʻolelo (stories), and landscapes with visitors from around the world, creating opportunities for meaningful exchanges and lifelong connections. As we welcome mindful travelers with open hearts, we remember that tourism has the potential to be a force for peace—not just in Hawaiʻi, but everywhere. Together, we can build bridges, support reconciliation, and promote a future where tourism unites us all in the pursuit of more maluhia - more peace. Let’s continue to mālama ʻāina, mālama each other, and mālama the world. 🌎💙 • #WorldTourismDay #WTD24 #Aloha #Kuleana #HVCB #PeaceThroughTourism #TourismAndPeace #MālamaHawaiʻi #TravelWithAloha

We had the pleasure of supporting and celebrating the work of Nā Kama Kai at their 13th annual Paʻakai Awards at The Royal Hawaiian. Through their mission to empower keiki by connecting them with the kai and ʻāina, Nā Kama Kai enables each child to nurture a deeper sense of aloha and kuleana for the natural environment and themselves. Mahalo to Nā Kama Kai for building the next generation of ocean stewards and community leaders! • #nakamakai #paakai #paakaigala #paakaiawards #paakai2024 #huihuliau #keikialohakaialoha #supportourkeiki #oceanstewards #alohaaina

Mele (songs), oli (chants), and hula preserve the memories, stories, and values of our ancestors. Through their lyrics, metaphors, and melodies, we gain a unique perspective on Hawaiʻi's history. In honor of Hawaiian History Month, we reflect upon one of Hawaiʻi's most well-known mele, Kaulana Nā Pua. Written by Eleanor Prendergast in 1893 and published in 1895, this song serves as a patriotic protest against the U.S. annexation of Hawaiʻi. Also known as "Mele ʻAi Pōhaku," or the "rock-eating song," its lyrics express the sentiment that the native people would rather " eat rocks" than accept annexation. Today, this song represents cultural pride and resilience in the face of adversity. This clip is taken from a powerful music video put together by Project KULEANA and Kamehameha Publishing in 2013. • #HVCB #HawaiianHistory #HawaiianCulture
