🚀 Day 3 (and final day) of the Silicon Valley Innovation Tour for HBCU Faculty We had the privilege to sit down with some of the most innovative minds in the Valley: 💡 Keegan Cooke at Stanford GSB gave us a powerful overview of how Stanford fosters entrepreneurship through its unique class offerings 📚 Steve Blank challenged us to rethink how we teach entrepreneurship. 🍽️ Over lunch at Emerson Collective, hosted by Fern Mandelbaum we had meaningful discussions about fostering impactful change in our institutions 🤯 Michael Seibel blew us away with his willingness to challenge our assumptions (we need a full separate post on all the takeaways from this session) 🍽️ We ended the day with dinner, joined by Kirby Harris This day was a powerful reminder that collaboration and fresh perspectives are key to advancing innovation in higher education. Our faculty are leaving with new strategies, connections, and most importantly, the inspiration to take action at their respective HBCUs. 💼💡 #InnovationTour #HBCUFaculty #Entrepreneurship #SiliconValley #InnovationInEducation #HBCUvc #HigherEd #FacultyLeadership #EntrepreneurshipEcosystem

Day 2 of the Silicon Valley Innovation Tour for HBCU Faculty: How Can We Build Stronger Startup Ecosystems at HBCUs? 🚀 Today was another inspiring day! We were hosted in the beautiful offices of Base10 Partners and had deep discussions about what we can do to strengthen startup ecosystems on HBCU campuses. Some key highlights include: • Riley Rodgers from Valia Ventures broke down venture capital and fund economics in a way that really clicked. 💡 • Shea Tate-Di Donna shared her journey of building university entrepreneurship programs from scratch—what an inspiring story! 🙌 • Laura Weidman Powers of Base10 talked about how they’re supporting HBCUs with initiatives like growing endowments and partnering with nonprofits to boost student success. 🌱 • Demetrius Palmer from Reach Capital (and a proud Howard and NCAT alum!) joined us for dinner and shared his journey into VC. His path was so motivating! 🗣️ As we reflect on today, we’d love to hear from you: 💭 What do you think are the most important levers for building stronger startup ecosystems at HBCUs? 💬 Have you seen any successful programs or models that could be applied? 📈 How can venture capital and entrepreneurship be more inclusive of HBCU communities? WHAT a summer. I’m so grateful to have been able to spend my pre-MBA summer back home in Atlanta learning from the incredible (and incredibly busy) Collab Capital team. Thank you, thank you to Jewel Barry Sydney for welcoming me with open arms, to Baheejah for encouraging me to dive deeper and deeper into building an investment thesis week by week, and to HBCUvc for preparing me to seize this opportunity. I’m heading to Harvard with gratitude for a new set of skills and renewed passion for learning. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Today is a bittersweet day at Collab Capital as we say "see you later" to our incredible Summer Associate, Ryan Jackson! Ryan has done phenomenal work this summer, touching every part of our business - from sourcing new deals and diving deep into due diligence, to supporting our existing portfolio companies, and producing a report to help us refine our 'Future of Care' thesis. She is a superstar! We are sad to see her go, but thrilled to cheer her on as she begins a new chapter at Harvard Business School in a few weeks. Major kudos go to Baheejah Crumbley for being an awesome manager to Ryan this summer, and Sydney Holness for ensuring she had a robust set of projects over the last 10 weeks. A big thank you to HBCUvc for your partnership to bring Ryan to Collab this summer. Join me in congratulating Ryan! 🎉

📌 Future Proof Tip #4: Your journey toward the destination of success holds weight, so don't shy away from telling—and investing in— your story. Last week, we wrapped up our four-week Future Proof Career Accelerator program with three phenomenal speakers/industry experts: Justin Bethune, talent partner, a16z who works on the firm's College Talent program; Kendall Camp, HBCUvc Senior Fellow and product marketing manager at Microsoft; and Dani Dawkins, product manager at LinkedIn. As they shared their own journeys entering the workforce with our HBCU undergraduate audience, they also provided a well-rounded picture of what it takes to capture the attention of recruiters while embracing their own unique stories without compromise. Thank you so much, Justin, Kendall, and Dani, for joining us last week and helping us conclude this year's program on a high note! 💫 #storytelling #careerdevelopment #professionaldevelopment #college #recruiting #jobhunting #LinkedIn #HBCUs #FutureProofCareerAccelerator #HBCUvc
