Intense amounts of stress increase blood pressure, so possibly that’s why Selena and Jose welcomed baby Jose III yesterday at UCF Lake Nona Hospital during Hurricane Milton. The couple still had three weeks until Jose III’s due date, but chronic hypertension prompted her obstetrician Dr. Denardis to recommend an early delivery. Earlier this week Selena wasn’t feeling well and tests revealed her blood pressure remained elevated. “I came in and my blood pressure was high. I went home and did everything I could to lower it but when I checked back and it was still high. Dr. Palazzolo, who practices with Dr. Denardis, said “Do you want to have a baby? Do you want to stay here?” The couple weren’t planning to deliver at UCF Lake Nona Hospital, in fact they had never visited the technologically advanced hospital. “Dr. Palazzolo recommended we schedule our C-section and we are very glad we had our baby here,” Selena said. “All the nurses were amazing. They were very attentive and told me everything that was going to happen, and everything I needed to know.” Jose III was born October 9, at 8:02 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 9 ounces. Following their delivery, the couple bonded with their baby and watched from their cozy hospital room as the storm passed through Lake Nona. UCF Lake Nona Hospital’s windows are built to withstand a Category 4 hurricane. With Jose III just one day old, it’s too soon to know if the couple plan to have another baby. “I have loved the experience,” Selena said. “This would be the hospital I’d come back to.” @HCAFloridaHealthcare HCA Healthcare
