We couldn't do the work we do without interns and volunteers like Noor! Click the link below to learn more about her story. "Noor Chouman has long had a passion for helping underserved communities, so the opportunity to work with Health Brigade in Richmond 'fits perfectly with my values. . . Being at Health Brigade, it’s really exposed me to skills that I’m going to need to learn not just in health care,' such as advocacy, leadership and teamwork, said Chouman, who wants to work in the field. 'I’ve just learned how much of a positive impact I can make.'"

Thank you to The Virginia Mercury for featuring the funding needs of safety net clinics like Health Brigade around the state, ahead of next year's General Assembly session. "There are over 70 [free] clinics around the state, and about 30 of them serve patients in rural areas, VAFCC CEO Rufus Phillips said at a June rural healthcare committee meeting in Farmville. . . As more and more people have been visiting free clinics in recent years, clinics haven’t received an increase in state funding since 2016. Phillips hopes the state can allocate an additional $5 million. This, he said, would pretty much put the clinics back at the 2016 funding levels, considering the state of inflation."

Thank you to Richmond magazine for featuring our team member Emely Baez Salazar and the important work our Community Health Workers do in Richmond!
Great article by Richmond magazine on the critical services community health workers (CHWs) provide to vulnerable populations in need of resources (including Emely Baez Salazar with the Health Brigade, formerly Fan Free Clinic shown here). “Our health system is highly fragmented and very specialized. Community health workers can help bridge that gap and make sure that there’s good continuity of care,” Rufus Phillips, CEO of the Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics explains in the article. https://lnkd.in/dv6Nd8F4

“Clinics are seeing more uninsured patients, and we expect this trend to continue as Medicaid unwinding wraps up,” said Rufus Phillips, Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics CEO. Great article from David Ress with the Richmond Times-Dispatch on the significant increase in patient demand seen recently by clinics (up 11.5% from this time a year ago and on top of the 28% increase clinics saw in fiscal year 2023). https://lnkd.in/dZrHC4xm
