Next up, we have Mary Catherine George, Health Psychologist, Clinical Research Program Director at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and Founder of ComfortWAVE VR 🎧 ComfortWAVE VR is a software application integrated into a VR device, designed for brief, immersive sessions (no more than 12 minutes) that combine images and sound. Approved by the FDA through the Breakthrough Device Program, it targets chronic pain management, particularly for the 30-60% of women suffering from Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome—a condition with no FDA-approved medications. 💻✨ Current pharmaceutical treatments have poor efficacy, high side effects, and risks of opioid misuse. ComfortWAVE VR provides VR-based hypnosis, a proven treatment with minimal side effects, giving patients agency over their pain management. It's designed to complement existing pain medications and offers an accessible, cost-effective approach to pain relief. 🌟 ComfortWAVE VR received an FDA IDE partial exemption in May 2024 and entered its final phase of testing in September 2024.
