Manager Of Client Services @ Healthcare IS Empowering Healthcare Organizations and Professionals to Thrive by Connecting the Right Talent with the Right Roles, at the Right Time

🔹 Hiring Managers, This One’s for You! 🔹 Let’s talk about soft skills, the real game changer when it comes to hiring top talent. Ever hired someone with a perfect resume, all the right certifications, and a list of technical skills a mile long… only to find they struggle to collaborate, adapt, or communicate effectively? That’s because hard skills might get someone in the door, but soft skills keep them thriving in their role. Think about it: - A coder who can’t explain their work to non-tech teams? Tough. - A sales rep who knows every product feature but can’t connect with customers? Ouch. - A leader with years of experience but no emotional intelligence? In today’s fast-changing world, technical skills alone aren’t enough. You need employees who can: - Adapt to new challenges - Communicate across teams - Build relationships and trust - Solve complex problems creatively Hiring for soft skills isn’t just a “nice-to-have” anymore—it’s a must. And the best part? These skills don’t show up on a resume—you have to dig deeper in interviews. So, hiring managers, what’s the #1 soft skill you must see in a candidate before making the hire? Drop it in the comments! #Hiring #TalentAcquisition #SoftSkillsMatter

Don’t Get “Breadcrumbed” Back when I got into recruiting, in the mid-’90s, a client would ask me to present them with people who they would interview multiple times. Inevitably, there were occasions when, after I’d gotten them several candidates who’d gone through multiple interviews, they’d let me know that there’d been a change of plans — the position had been put on hold, the requirements had changed, or someone internal had been hired. At that moment, I was upset that the client had wasted MY time. Fast-forward a couple of years: The same thing would occur, but my mindset had changed. By this time, I would think, “Wow, how do they waste their OWN time doing this?” Fast-forward a few more years: I realized that, although some hiring managers weren’t good at managing their own time, it was more than that: They weren’t sincere. They never had intentions of hiring to begin with. They were either looking for information from the candidates they interviewed or were comparing the candidates to an internal person they wanted to hire. Bottom line: Hiring someone was secondary to them. About a year ago I learned there’s actually a term for this type of behavior: “breadcrumbing.” There’s nothing more brutal than taking advantage of someone who’s sincerely looking for a job. But let’s be clear: Many people are just as insincere when interviewing with a company. Ten years ago, companies didn’t ask to meet candidates as often, because after an initial phone call, most interviews were face-to-face, and they knew that there were only so many times they could reasonably ask someone to come in for an interview. Fast-forward to post-COVID: There are plenty of companies that don’t hesitate to ask candidates to join them on a sixth Zoom meeting. Of course, not all companies are insincere. Many are just inefficient. And yes, things can change in a company that can cause their hiring plans to change. When this happens, a lot of people’s time will have been wasted. Most people don’t look for a job that often, so they’re not able to differentiate between a reasonable process and an unreasonable process. At the end of the day, if there’s a company you want to work for, and they have a crazy hiring process, you’re just going to have to deal with it. However, knowing your limits ahead of time will save you headache and, potentially, heartache caused by “breadcrumbing.”

Yes, You Should Ask . . . I read a post recently where someone asked, “If candidates are required to explain their résumé gaps in the interest of transparency, then employers should be required to disclose their annual turnover rate, layoffs, wage-theft lawsuits and settlements, discrimination claims, sexual harassment claims, board members indicted, class action employment lawsuits, and fines paid for breaking employment laws.” When I read something like this, I don’t understand the word “require.” It’s framed as if the candidates must answer every question asked, but they don’t have the right to ask equally probing questions of their potential employer. I think it’s absolutely acceptable for any candidate to ask anything that’s important for them to know about prior to accepting a position. I think people should take into consideration not only the information they receive, but also the information the organization was not willing to share.

Why the Best Candidates Aren’t Always the ‘Perfect’ Ones In today’s competitive job market, it’s about how you navigate the challenges that come your way, especially when transitioning into a new role or industry. I was recently working with a candidate who was looking to move from her current role in healthcare IT into a role in which she wasn’t an expert. Although she had a strong background, there were a few areas where her experience didn’t fully align with the job description. Instead of ignoring these gaps, she took a different approach — one that made all the difference in her job search. Where she was able to get interviews, here’s what she did: 1. She acknowledged the gaps. During her interviews, she openly discussed the areas where her background didn’t perfectly match the job requirements. By doing so, she demonstrated to the hiring manager that she was self-aware and understood where she needed to grow. 2. She proposed solutions. She didn’t stop at just identifying the gaps. She also outlined a clear plan for how she would address them, showing her ability to anticipate challenges and proactively solve them. This gave the hiring team confidence in her problem-solving skills and her commitment to the role. Although no tactics work all the time, in this case, she secured a job. Her new manager specifically told her that her acknowledgment of her gaps — with a plan in hand — gave them the confidence to offer her the job. In today’s market, recognizing where you might fall short and communicating your plan to overcome those challenges isn’t just smart — it’s essential. #CareerAdvice #JobSearchTips #CareerTransition #InterviewTips
