A trip to the dentist for answers about why Susana was losing bone in her teeth led to a myeloma diagnosis. Together with her doctor, Susana decided that she had to educate herself enough to lead the decision-making about her own treatment. Resources she found at HealthTree helped put her in the driver's seat. Now, Susana is a coach, helping other people with myeloma take control of their care. #SupportBloodCancerResearch #BloodCancerAwarenessMonth Thank you to our Blood Cancer Awareness Month sponsor GSK Watch Susana's story here: https://lnkd.in/gBn_8Bqg

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and my team has been hard at work collecting stories to share!
Janet Schurmann was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2017 and was treated with a stem cell transplant. Several years later, she was diagnosed with another blood cancer: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). At the same time, Janet’s husband received a myeloma diagnosis, so Janet found herself facing an ALL diagnosis and being a caregiver. Janet received immunotherapy for ALL, and today is doing well. She shares her experience and supports other people living with cancer as a HealthTree Coach. https://lnkd.in/gDDjvSfS #BloodCancerAwarenessMonth #InnovationThatBuildsCommunity #SupportBloodCancerResearch Thank you to our Blood Cancer Awareness Month sponsor @GSK

The SKY92 test created by SkylineDx BV examines the activity of 92 genes linked to myeloma. It pinpoints high-risk myeloma accurately so doctors can customize more targeted treatments. Myeloma specialists, Saad Z. Usmani and Kenneth Anderson, MD, from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center agree that "The SKY92 signature is the only fully accredited GEP signature and has consistent performance in detecting high-risk in myeloma” https://lnkd.in/gWWji9f4 Martin Kaiser from The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust THE BRITISH SOCIETY FOR HAEMATOLOGY #cartcelltherapy #cartcell #myelomaresearch #myelomaclinicaltrials #clinicaltrials #newinmyeloma #myelomaspecialist #hematology #bloodcancer #oncology #advancesinmyeloma #research #cancerresearch #healthtreeresearch #alamyloidosis #bloodcancer #bloodcancerawareness #bloodcancersurvivor #bmt #bonemarrowtransplant #cancer #cancerawareness #cancercare #cancerfighter #cancerpatients #cancerresearch #cancersurvivor #cancertreatment #cancerwarrior #cancerwarriors #clinicalresearch #clinicaltrials #crowdsourcing #digitaladoption #digitalcare #digitalhealth #digitalhealthcare #digitalinnovation #digitalmedicine #digitaltransformation #disparities #empoweredpatients #fightcancer #healthcareinnovation #healthtech #healthtechnology #healthtechstartup #healthtree #hematology #innovation #medtech #mgus #Monoclonalgammopathyofundeterminedsignificance #oncology #outcomes #outcomesresearch #patientcentricity #patientempowerment #patientengagement #personalizedcare #personalizedmedicine #realtech #realworld #realworlddata #realworldevidence #SCT #smolderingmyeloma #stemcells #stemcelltransplant

HealthTree was so happy to work with PeerVoice to improve access and care among African American myeloma patients.
#Multiplemyeloma (MM) is the second most common hematologic malignancy in the US and the most common hematologic malignancy among Black people. Yet racial disparities and inequities exist in quality MM care that affect timely diagnosis/referral and access to treatment, which increase the risk of myeloma-related complications and mortality. PeerVoice is very proud of this recent CME activity developed in partnership with HealthTree Foundation and featuring Brandon Blue, MD, and patient advocate Valarie Traynham, BS, as they explore these strategies to improve access to care and treatment delays among African American patients with MM. Very proud to have been involved in the development of this activity. It was over a year ago at ASCO 2023 when Jenny Myers Ahlstrom and I discussed the hope for an activity broaching the subject of health disparities in multiple myeloma. It was particularly eye-opening for me to learn that the death rate of patients with multiple myeloma is twice as high for black than for white patients in the US and while it’s clear that a number of factors contribute to this disparity, there is also a continuous role that education can play in helping to close this gap. After all of the hard work and planning by PeerVoice and HealthTree Foundation behind the scenes it is truly amazing to see this impactful well produced piece of independent medical education released into the HCP community. Please feel free to view and especially share this activity with HCPs treating patients and keen to learn more about the disparities that exist in the management of the most common haematological malignancy amongst the black community. Special thanks to the fantastic Brandon Blue MD and patient advocate Valerie Traynham for their powerful discussions in this activity. #MultipleMyeloma #HealthEquity #PatientAdvocaccy
Endorsed by HealthTree Foundation Although disparities in treatment and outcomes for African American individuals with multiple myeloma (MM) are multifactorial and complex, there are steps clinicians can take to help address issues related to access and delivery of high-quality care.
