“Nature is at the farmer’s heart.” So remarked a participant at last week's EU CAP workshop "Promoting pollinator-friendly farming" held in Ljubljana. I was honored to present a poster on methods for biodiversity assessment in the Horizon Europe project HelEx. The crowd found my topic of climate-smart and biodiversity-friendly sunflower cultivars intriguing and highly relevant. Our interactive sessions included discussions on motivators for participation, indicators and policy at national and Europe-wide levels. The 71st annual meeting of the Association of German Bee Research Institutes was held in Münster, Germany, from 19 to 21 March. Salena Husband, from the Julius Kühn-Institut, presented the initial results of the HelEx European research project on sunflowers. The conference, organized by the beekeeping team at the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture, was a crucial opportunity for scientists and beekeepers from Germany and neighboring countries to exchange ideas. Discussions on the latest advances in ecology, bee and plant protection, bee products, genetics and breeding, physiology and behavior, and bee pathology were on the agenda. The HelEx project plays a key role in all of this.

The Agro-industrial Chemistry Laboratory is looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Analytical Chemistry to join the HelEx project in Toulouse, France. Focus on developing drought and extreme weather-resistant sunflower varieties. PhD required, background in Agroresource Sciences or Analytical Chemistry preferred. Fluent in English and French.
