The hot summer is becoming a serious challenge for crops in Ukraine, russia and the EU, even for sunflower, which is more resistant to hot weather. Unusually high temperatures in July, combined with dry soil, have negative impact on yield forecasts and prospects for the new crop. Due to the extremely high average daily temperatures and the rapid accumulation of effective heat, which is significantly higher than the long-term average, the inter-phase periods of sunflower development are shortened, which can lead to a premature end of the growing season and a reduction in yield.

🌾After last year’s historically poor harvest, among the worst in 30 years, we are now approaching a harvest that is the most important in a long time. Lantmännen's forecast for this year’s Swedish harvest amounts to 5.4 million tonnes of grain. That is to be considered as an average harvest, compared to the past several years. Summarized across the country, the very wet autumn, winter, and spring significantly delayed spring sowing. This was followed by early summer drought, which collectively has negatively impacted the spring-sown grains. The autumn-sown crops have managed the conditions better and show potential for normal yield levels. Sweden's largest crop, ley, has thrived very well in the moist conditions, and ley harvests are of good volume and quality in large parts of the country. 👉Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dDyJ9Xvu --- #harvest2024 #lantmännen #harvestforecast2024

South Africa's 2024-25 winter crop season is underway, and some regions of the Western Cape (the largest province for winter crops), have received excellent rains so far. Some areas of the Western Cape may have received more rain than ideal earlier in the season, leading to fears of possible poor yields. But we are still early in the season, and there will be clarity about the yield potential only in the coming months. https://lnkd.in/dxEbynzY

Have you seen this study? A six-year field experiment in the North China Plain demonstrates the benefits of diversifying a traditional cereal monoculture with rotations of other cash crops. The diversified rotations increased equivalent yield by up to 38%, reduced N2O emissions by 39%, and improved the system’s greenhouse gas balance by 88%. It was also shown that when legumes were included in crop rotations in this location they stimulated soil microbial activities, increased soil organic carbon stocks by 8%, and enhanced soil health by 45%. https://buff.ly/47E4Ysh #CRARS #regenerativeagriculture #soilhealth #CropRotation

Over the last six months, Status® and MTU® have been making waves throughout Europe, being presented at the Biostimuants World Congress, Fima Agricola, and as a topic on Phytoma Meets. It has now achieved its CE Mark Certification and is being hailed as a ‘new generation of #biostimulants’. Jaroslav Nisler, who led on the development of MTU®, only available in Status®, told us, “There hasn’t been anything like it in Europe before. MTU® achieves remarkable results at very low dose rates (0.5g/ha), which is very unique. Status® helps a variety of crops deal better in challenging climates by improving nitrogen use efficiency. It builds the resilience required to deal with the abiotic stresses which, sadly, is become increasingly more common in crop production. In trials with wheat, leaves exposed to periods of drought, heat or salinity, for example, remained green for longer and recovered much better when treated with Status®.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eAA2JaHk
