Catlin Whitington, Executive Director of ArtPrize relocated to West Michigan from Austin, Texas. He recently sat down with the MEDC to chat about his relocation experience. Thanks for the shoutout, Catlin! “There's good access to all the resources that we need. It's been very hospitable and a very easy transition. There have also been some programs that have been really helpful. Hello West Michigan has been great. They host happy hours for recently relocated professionals and executives coming into the area.” Read more about Catlin's relocation experience: https://ow.ly/Q0Z050TG7ej

Most of our Rapid Roots sessions focus on region-specific topics, such as the history, the economy, and things to do. Session five has a unique theme: making friends, a universal challenge when it comes to relocation. Success in friend-finding is critical to retention, not just for the primary relocatee, but also for their signifcant other. Our Executive Director, Rachel Gray, has collected data and anecdotes over the last eleven years about why this can be a particular challenge in West Michigan. Our cohort members and their significant others learned the science of friend-making and made a friend-finding action plan.
