About us
HelpAge USA works with our global network of affiliates and partners to implement programs and policies that improve the lives of older people in the world's poorest communities. We ensure that older people are included in international development and have access to emergency relief, income security, health services, and basic human rights. The HelpAge vision is of a world in which all older people fulfill their potential to lead dignified, active, healthy and secure lives. HelpAge is driven by a fundamental understanding that older people have the wisdom and the personal drive to contribute to their own well-being and to that of their families. We work globally to ensure that people everywhere understand how much older people contribute to society and that they must enjoy their right to healthcare, social services and economic and physical security. HelpAge International has six regional centers coordinating our work in Africa, East and South Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe/Central Asia. We work to address the issues that affect older people worldwide, including health, human rights, access to decent work and in emergencies. Since its inception in 1983, the HelpAge network has grown to over 100 affiliates and many more partners in 80+ countries across the world.

🎓Today, a few of our #FriendshipBenchDC Grandparents had the opportunity to speak with students in Trinity Washington University’s Occupational Therapy (OT) master’s program during their class on “Aging and Community-Based Services.” As these future OTs prepare for their clinicals and work on designing impactful community programs, our Grandparents shared their own experiences about what motivated them to join Friendship Bench DC, how being part of the program has given them a renewed sense of purpose, and the meaningful difference they are making in their communities. They also shared an essential perspective: older adults aren’t just recipients of services. They’re active agents of change, uniquely positioned to address pressing challenges like mental health and build stronger, more connected communities. A round of 👏 for our Grandparents for inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals and continuing to show the strength and wisdom that comes with age!

HelpAge stands in solidarity with the World Health Organization (WHO) and its vital role in safeguarding global health, supporting those most at risk. Ending U.S. contributions to WHO would weaken the world’s capacity to respond to humanitarian crises and could undermine the dignity, well-being, and rights of older people everywhere.

In just three months, older Ukrainians accounted for nearly 50% of civilian deaths and 1/3 of reported injuries near the frontlines. Many remain in areas where basic services are disrupted, putting them at even greater risk. As the conflict continues, the impact on #OlderPeople cannot be ignored. We must take urgent steps to safeguard their health, rights, and well-being, both now and in the long term. At HelpAge USA, we're proud to advocate for a world where aging is recognized as a global priority. 🌍 Last month, Senator Tim Kaine, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, took an important step by requesting a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report and review on how global aging affects U.S. foreign humanitarian assistance, development, and national security. The letter draws on HelpAge USA's advocacy with Congress and others for stronger inclusion of older people in U.S. international policies and programs. Once completed, the GAO’s report will be a critical tool for identifying policy gaps and advancing age-inclusive solutions to shape global policies that include all generations. 📄 Read the letter: https://shorturl.at/rJKtz
