Richmond is not just a sports community—it’s a collaborative community and that community truly shined last week. Reflecting on the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship held at the Henrico Sports & Events Center, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who came out to support us. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local partners, community organizations, corporations, and vendors who volunteered, purchased tickets, or sponsored the event. A special shout-out to Richmond Raceway Trolley House Refreshments, Dominion Energy, Kings Dominion, Virginia Credit Union, Henrico Economic Development Authority, Paul Davis Restoration, Inc., Coca-Cola Consolidated, Richmond Region Tourism, Dominion Energy Charity Classic, Sportable - Adaptive Sports and Recreation, ChamberRVA, Hanover Chamber of Commerce VA, The 288 Group, YMCA of Greater Richmond and so many others who played a role in making this event a success. Your involvement by bringing out your staff to catch a game and volunteering showed off the amazing partners we have in this area. These groups along with the dedication of our Local Organizing Committee members, helped spread the word and bring energy to this tournament. THANK YOU for the support, dedication, and passion from our hardworking Henrico Sports & Events Center staff, Henrico County PR, IT, and public safety teams and RMC Events Inc., who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. We could not execute an event like we did without you! THANK YOU to the Greater Richmond community for championing women’s athletics and welcoming this event with such enthusiasm. This week, Henrico County hosted its first all-employee Town Hall of the year. Leadership came together to celebrate successes, discuss the value-aligned budget, and hear directly from employees. Here are a few highlights from the Town Hall: •Kudos to our Public Utilities and Public Works teams for their incredible work during the recent water crisis and snow events. •16 employees are now new homeowners, thanks to the Employee Home Purchase Assistance Program! •The proposed budget includes a 6% raise for employees and tax cuts, reflecting Henrico’s commitment to investing in its workforce. •Henrico is in the 99th percentile nationwide for healthcare benefits, ensuring that employees get top-tier plans at an affordable cost. •Henrico offers various wellness benefits, such as parental leave, wellness leave, gym classes, yoga classes, and discounts on gym memberships. •Employee Voice Matters: Employees are encouraged to speak up about their needs and concerns. From market-adjusted pay increases to health benefits, County leadership is dedicated to making Henrico a place where everyone’s voice is heard and valued. Henrico County continues to be a place where employees can thrive professionally and personally. If you see the Henrico County flags at half-staff at all county buildings and schools today and tomorrow, it is to honor a former employee who made a lasting impression and recently passed away. Mr. Elvin Cosby’s story is about much more than his unparalleled longevity, however, as impressive as it is. He was driven by his faith, by a tireless work ethic and by a profound sense of service, both to his fellow employees and to the residents of our county. He was a dedicated supervisor, mentor and friend to his colleagues in Public Works. Along the way he helped build the foundation for this workforce’s guiding philosophy of customer service. In 2015, the county established the Elvin R. Cosby Award to recognize our long-tenured employees for their outstanding service and contributions. In 2018, hundreds were in attendance when we dedicated Elvin Cosby Way in honor of his 72nd year as a county employee. It's heartwarming to see the spirit of giving alive in our community, and we are so grateful to all who have participated!
